Ethnocultural Community Appointments

Martha Chicas–Multicultural Sexuality Education Resource Centre registered nurse at the Occupational Health Centre, and founding and active member of the Occupational Health Centre’s Cross Cultural Advisory Committee.

Kehinde Daodu– health-care worker, founder/director of the Victoria-Ola Foundation, cofounder of the Nigeria-Canada Congress of Manitoba,and board member for both West Broadway Youth Outreach and the Congress of Black Women.

Mariella DiSanto– executive director of the Italian Canadian Centre of Manitoba, past member of the board of directors of the Dante Alighieri Cultural Society and involvement with the Giovanni Caboto Society.

Kourosh Doustshenas– broker/private business owner, Expert Real Estate Services, founding member of the Iranian Community of Manitoba (ICM), director and member of the board of directors for ICM and former president of ICM.

Nellie Drozd–international projects financial officer at the University of Manitoba and Canadian International Development Agency, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Manitoba Provincial Council and event planner for the Ukrainian Community of Winnipeg.

Krystyna Gajda–Senior Laboratory Assistant at Tec-Voc High School, 2008-11 MEAAC member and executive of Canadian Polish Congress Manitoba branch.

Sergio Glogowski – power systems specialist at Monarch Industries; 200911 MEAAC vice-chair, vice-president of the Argentinean Association, vice-president of the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada and member of the IsraelCanada Round Table.

Isaac Gwendo– manager, Hanscomb Limited; 2008-11 MEAAC member and active participant in the Kenyan community.

Perla Javate– community liaison officer for the Winnipeg School Division, president of the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba, and volunteer with the Mount Carmel Clinic and the Sexuality Education Centre.

Saratha Joseph–member of the Tamil Cultural Society of Manitoba, retired teacher, 200811 MEAAC member, worked on community consultations as a member of the Inclusive and Sustainable Standing Committee and currently a member of the Youth Standing Committee.

Jeongsoo Park– implementation specialist at MacDon Industries, PhD in mechanical engineering, auditor of the Manitoba Korean Canadian Heritage Language School and vice-president of the Manitoba Chapter of the Association of Korean Canadian Scientists and Engineers.

George R. Thomas– health-care professional, PhD in pharmacy, president of the Malayali Association of Manitoba, organizer for Haiti earthquake and Pakistan flood relief, and language teacher for Malayali.

Ministerial Appointments

Muuxi Adam–youth program co-ordinator for the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCOM) andco-ordinator of the Afterschool Program at IRCOM.

Padmini Balakumar– correctional officer with Manitoba Justice, juvenile counsellor at Portage Correctional Centre for Women, volunteer at Mary Mound, vice-president of the Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre, board member for the India School of Dance and Theatre and choreographer for the India and Tamil Folklorama pavilions.

Tom Colina – co-owner of the Smile Centre, manager of the Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers, Western Canada area commander of the Knights of Rizaland member of the Winnipeg Dental Mission.

Luis Luna –involved with settlement and English as a second language at thePortage Learning and Literacy Centre.

Nora Sobel–co-ordinator for the Centre for Immigrant and International Students, canvasser for Riverview Community Centre, canvasser for the Combined Jewish Appeal/Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, volunteer for the Argentinean Pavilion at Folklorama, volunteer for the Israel Pavilion, program chair and volunteer for the young adult leadership /J-PEG Federation of Winnipeg and volunteer for the United Way.
