An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The majority of people that live within or visit our community relish the splendour and variety in our Gower countryside and villages but is there a danger that we become too complacent?

As a Community Council we have an aim to help improve the environment in which we live; we raise concerns with the appropriate authorities about litter, fly tipping, footpaths, the conditions of our roads, speeding traffic and the safety of the many walkers in our area.

Sometimes we propose a project which we hope will enhance the enjoyment or experience in our community; a number of benches, improvements at Burry Green, the plinth on Llanmadoc Hill, and five defibrillators located in prominent locations or lend our support to local organisations in grants to assist their activities, which we feel are of benefit to the community.

Could we do better? We would welcome suggestions or proposals to which we can consider lending our support or perhaps undertake as a project ourselves. Naturally any suggestions from one source often prompt counter observations from others. Sadly some ideas never progress; permissions may need to be sought from the Land Owner, the Commoners and Swansea Planning to name a few, and then there is the matter of funds!!

There has for example been a suggestion to improve the centre of Llangennith, undertaking work to protect the edges of the Greens that are being eroded by the size and number of large vehicles and to make more of a feature of the Well area. There has also been a suggestion of removing the stones to allow cars to park up to the Church wall, as once used to happen, even for there to be a pay and display in this area. Others say to leave thing well alone and express their wish to fight against any further urbanisation in our countryside... any thoughts on this or proposals of your own??!!

As a Council we try hard to assess the views of people in our neighbourhood for planning applications and other proposals, we welcome your observations and invite you to speak at our monthly meetings held by rotation in Burry Green, Llangennith and Llanmadoc.

Next meeting is at Llangennith Hall 7.30pm on Wednesday 5th October.
