Fill in the blanks as we study the lesson.

1.Solomon, the wise man, told his sonthat the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.(Prov. 1:7)In our last lesson, we learned to avoid bad companions. (Prov. 1:10-19)

2. Solomon says wisdom is like a good woman who is calling you to come to her. (Prov. 1:20-21) She calls to everyone. She does not speak secrets in hidden places. Nobody will be able to make the excuse that they did not know the truth.God’s wisdom is open for everyone to read in the Bible.

3. Wisdom calls to three kinds of people who need to change their ways and turn to her. (Prov. 1:22-23) First, she calls to the simple. These people are not stupid; they are young and inexperienced. They listen to everything, and it all sounds good to them. Wisdom can help the young make the right decisions, as if they were older and more competent. The decisions you make in your youth will have a great influence on the rest of your life. Young people are not wise enough to make these very important decisions. You can learn from your mistakes, you can learn from watching other people’s mistakes, or you can learn from God’s wisdom. There is no reason to love simplicity. It will never help you to make a good decision.

4. Wisdom also calls to the scorner. This is a person who is proud in his own ignorance. He is not wise, but he mocks and makes fun of wisdom and truth. He thinks he is very smart, but in fact he is foolish. His arrogant attitude says “I already know everything”, so he will not listen and try to learn. He takes pleasure in his scorning. He needs to humble himself and listen to the call of wisdom.

5. Wisdom calls to the fool. This is a person who has listened to God’s wisdom, but he hates and rejects it. Verse 22 says he hates knowledge. Verse 7 says he despises wisdom and instruction. He has a rebellious attitude against God. The fool needs to repent and turn his hard heart to believe the Bible.

6. Wisdom reproves these people. She tells them that they are wrong, and they need to change themselves to make it right. They need to turn around and take a different road. They need to repent. They need to come to wisdom, the good woman.

7. She promises to do good things for them if they will come to her. She promises to pour out her spirit unto them. If you will seek for the wisdom of God, the Holy Spirit of God will help you. He will teach you and help you to remember what God has said. (John 14:26) Wisdom promises to make her words known unto you, but you have to come to her. You have to read the Bible, but God will help you to know what it means.

8. Wisdom calls out a fearful warning of what will happen to those who do not listen to her. (Prov. 1:24-32) They refuse to listen to her call, to accept her help, to follow her advice or repent when she reproves. They will come to a crisis in life because of the unwise decisions they made, but God will not help them. When they are afraid and distressed, God will laugh and mock at them. When they call to God, He will not answer them. When they seek Him, they will not find Him. God wants to help us and save us, but there is a time limit on His patience. If we continue to reject His word, He will eventually leave us to be destroyed by our own foolishness. (Isaiah 55:6)

9. Those who listen to wisdom’s call and come to her are blessed in many ways. They can live in peace and do not have to fear evil. (Prov. 1:33)

10. Wisdom will keep us from evil men (bad companions). It will keep us from evil women (immoral relationships). (Prov. 2:10-19)

11. A man who finds wisdom is happy. (Prov. 3:13-20) Wisdom is more valuable than silver, gold, rubies, or anything else you could desire. It helps you to live longer. It brings you financial success and respect. It makes your life pleasant and peaceful. God used wisdom to create the world, and His wisdom keeps it working.

12. Solomon said that wisdom is the most important thing to get in this life. (Prov. 4:5-9) We should love wisdom as a man loves his sweetheart, and wisdom will take care of us. It will bring us to honor. (We will be respected.)

13. Proverbs chapters 8 and 9 tell us what wisdom, the good woman, says as she calls us to come to her. She speaks the truth. (8:7) Wisdom helps a person to figure out solutions to difficult problems. (8:12) The wise person hates evil because he fears God. (8:13) Government leaders need wisdom to rule well. (8:14-15) The wisdom of God has always existed for all eternity. (8:22-31) Wisdom helps a man please God. (8:35) Those who hate wisdom hurt themselves. They love death. (8:31) Wisdom has prepared a place and a feast for those who will look for her. (9:1-5) Wise men receive rebuke and instruction; that’s how they become even wiser. (9:7-10) Foolishness is like a bad woman who calls us to come to her. Her guests are in the depths of hell. (9:13-18)
