FRIENDS OF CLARKSBURG SCHOOLS

JOIN THE FIGHT TO SAVE OUR SCHOOLS & COMMUNITIES

Who Are the Friends of Clarksburg Schools?

The Friends of Clarksburg Schools (FCS) is a nonprofit group of parents, teachers and concerned Clarksburg, Courtland and Walnut Grove citizens who are dedicated to maintaining a quality educational environment at both the Clarksburg Elementary and Delta High Schools. Our mission is to help our students achieve academic success, while preserving the unique qualities of the River Delta Unified School District’s (RDUSD) northern communities.

What Are Our Concerns?

The RDUSD planning process was an outrage because:

  • It was undemocratic and rushed
  • It failed to properly analyze financial, educational, environmental and other major issues
  • It ignored community concerns and alternative solutions
  • It discriminated against the area’s Hispanic population

The RDUSD plan is bad for our children because:

  • It will close Clarksburg Elementary School
  • It will destroy the academic success of Delta High School
  • It disrupts parental and community involvement
  • It transports too many children out of their own communities

Why Should You Care?

The RDUSD plan impacts you no matter where you live or whether or not you have children in the school system because it could result in:

  • Lower property values
  • Increased traffic congestion, more dangerous roads
  • Eliminates local elementary school options
  • Loss of students due to parents choosing private schools over unstable district
  • A financially unstable school district – from Rio Vista to Clarksburg
  • Lack of local control

What Are Our Plans?

We are fighting the RDUSD plan through a variety of legal strategies and evaluating one or more of the following options to this community crisis:

  • Establish a charter school
  • Separate from the River Delta Unified School District (RDUSD) to form a new independent school district
  • Separate from the RDUSD and merge with another school district such as Washington Unified in West Sacramento or Sacramento
