Pullman Rail was established just over 20 years ago. It is a Cardiff based engineering business and is part of the Colas Rail group of companies which in turn is part of the Bouygues group. Pullman Rail enjoys a long-standing reputation for the quality of its engineering, its timely delivery and competitive prices.

Our Leckwith based depot, located close to Cardiff Central station, is a prime asset serving the entire UK rail network. Our technical expertise in safety and project management means we can deliver refined engineering and productions solutions to meet specific customer requirements. We are constantly developing our systems and techniques to reduce waste, cut down on lead and cycle times and improve efficiency in order to get vehicles back into revenue earning service as quickly as possible.

The Company is a key employer in South Wales with a national reach and there are plans to grow the Pullman Rail business, building on the many well-established customer relationships as well as developing new ones. The business itself will also carry on completing current and planned improvements to its facilities. This will enable further development in the scope of services for passenger, freight and plant rolling stock. These developments will increase the capacity and reduce throughput time for bogie, wheel set, rail vehicle overhaul, refurbishments and upgrades.

1.0 Key responsibilities

1.1Follow the relevant instructions, diagrams and any other specifications for overhauling traction and rolling stock components.

1.2Ensure that the specified components are available and that they are in a usable condition and comply with organisation’s procedures for quality control.

1.3Use the appropriate methods and techniques to disassemble/assemble the components.

1.4Secure the components using the specified connectors and securing devices.

1.5Check the completed disassembly/assembly to ensure that all activities have been completed and the finished disassembly/assembly meets the required specification/ operational tolerances.

1.6Deal promptly with problems within own area of responsibility and report those that cannot be resolved.

1.7Take precautions to prevent damage to components, tools and equipment during removal or replacement.

1.8Check the condition of the removed components and record those that will require replacing.

1.9Ensure the proper labelling and storing of the removed components in a designated location in line with organisational procedures.

1.10Store or discard the removed components in line with organisational procedures.

1.11Report any instances where the equipment fails to meet the required performance after adjustments or where there are identified defects outside the required adjustments.

1.12Maintain documentation in line with the organisation’s procedures.

2.1Comply with safe systems of work for the task in line with organisational procedures and work to the system.

3.0Quality 3.1 Ensure that all work carried out is in line with organisational quality management system.

4.0 General

Qualifications
Completed a recognised indentured apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline. / 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Skilled level in appropriate trade. / 
Experience of safely undertaking dismantling, inspection and reassembly of various items of industrial plant. / 
Able to use electrically operated remote control, overhead cranes to sling, rig and move material and component parts / 
A genuine commitment to achieving high standards and an eye for detail to monitor the quality of work done. / 
Able to interpret and follow the relevant instructions, diagrams and any other
specifications. / 
Experience of safe working practices in a safety critical workplace. / 
Good problem-solving skills. / 
