External consultants and contractors working in the Design/Building teams including technical support/architects, Quantity Surveyors, Structural/Civil/M&E engineers as required. Local Authority Planning and Building Control officers. Survey and ground investigation contractors including ecologists.

Purpose:To work closely with the Conservation Architect to produce all necessary drawings and supporting documents for the Remaking Beamish project. Work as a key part of the Design Team working onthe delivery phase from 2017 to 2020.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role under the guidance of the in-house Conservation Architect producing Autocad architectural drawings and technical specifications during Remaking Beamish project, ensuring that the detail of designs authentically satisfy the project brief/vision, including the following:

a)Working closely with the Conservation Architect to develop designs from concept to detailed design and production information

b)Co-ordination/liaison with site investigation/survey contractors including ecologists

c)Co-ordination/liaison with engineers and others consultants

d)Supporting the wider project team in reviewing designs to ensure they meet all of the requirements of our visitors and staff

  • Place community and visitor needs/engagement at the heart of the design and build process. Work with and support the Remaking Beamish Community Participation team as they involve local people in the curation of exhibits. Ensure all developments are designed to meet the needs and motivations of the Museums audience, and are as accessible as possible. Participate in the community consultation processes and events to inform designs.
  • Play an active role as a member of the Design and Buildings Team, working with project staff and external advisors as required to ensure that the design process delivers on the approved purposes/ project concept..
  • Support the Conservation Architect and wider team delivering the Remaking Beamish project from 2017 – 2020, ensuring that the detail of designs authentically satisfy the project brief/vision

Team Duties:

  • Work as part of the Remaking Beamish Project Team to ensure the delivery of the Remaking Beamish project, placing visitors at the centre of all activities and planning
  • Be an advocate for the Museum, the HLF Project Team and its work.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure consistent communication and cross area working to ensure the visitor is always placed first in any planning and activities.
  • Supporting colleagues with the production of reports and presentations as required.
  • Carry out the duties of the post in accordance with the Museum’s Equal Opportunity Policy, Code of Conduct and Health and Safety Policy.
  • Carry out any other duties within the level of responsibility as may be determined by management from time to time.

Requirements

Skills/ Knowledge /
  • A commitment to Beamish and its core purpose/mission, and a keen interest in delivering the Remaking Beamish project.
  • Excellent architectural drawing skills: familiarity with standard CAD software, preferably including the ability to produce high-quality 3D visualisations
  • Keen interest in, and knowledge of, North Eastern buildings and vernacular architecture
  • Knowledge of historic building construction and materials
  • An interest in and awareness of the issues involved with translocating historic buildings.
  • Excellent communications skills – able to work effectively with outside contractors/designers, Museum colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Able to maintain excellent written records Able to work with attention to detail and commitment to the highest possible quality standards.
  • Excellent time management skills
