HOW TO: MySSLDNS Backups

This document shows you how to do manual DNS backups on Bakewell for individual domain names and for your entire portfolio in your MySSL platform.

Points to note:

  • It is not currently possible to restore any previous settings from the backups
  • Any modifications that are made to domain names through the API will be automatically backed up and visible in the DNS Backups tab in the left-hand navigation of yourMySSL platform. For the automated backups, you will be able to see the before and afterchanges. For any manual backups, you will only be able to see the current DNS settings which will be shown in the ‘Before Changes’ column (see below for more info).

Individual Back-up

  1. Log-in to your MySSL platform (
  2. In the left-hand navigation, find Domain Name listed under Products. Click on Domain Names to bring up the sub-menu.
  3. To backup an individual domain name, click on ‘Registered’.

  1. Choose the domain name that you would like to back up from the list and click on the eye icon to open the domain name record.

  1. On the right-hand side of the screen you will see the ‘Backup DNS’ button. Click this to start the backup. Once it has been completed successfully, you will see a green status bar at the bottom of the page.

  1. To view the backed-up data, click on ‘DNS Backups’ in the left-hand navigation (this is listed under Domain Names).
  1. You will then see all the DNS backups listed with the most recent at the top. For this example, we backedup riba-test.com and you can see the backed-up data in the ‘Before Changes’ column.

  1. Highlight and copy all the information in the ‘Before Changes’ column and click on the green ‘JSON Parser’ button at the top of the screen.
  2. Paste all the information in the white box and click ‘Process’ to decode the information.

Entire Portfolio Backup

  1. To back up your entire domain name portfolio, it is a similar process to backing up an individual domain name except that to start the backup, you need to click on ‘Search’ listed under Domain Names in the left-hand navigation.
  1. In the next screen, click on ‘Backup DNS’ on the right-hand side of the screen to start the backup. As with the individual process, you will see a green status bar at the bottom of the screen when the backup has been completed successfully.
  1. To view the backups, follow the same process as the individual process above starting from step 6.
