HOMEWORK AND CLASSROOM POLICIES

  1. I do not accept partial work and neither should you. Therefore, in order to receive credit, you must complete assignments in their entirety; and to receive quiz or test credit, you must also read any selections covered on a quiz or a test in their entirety.
  2. Please, do not submit unfinished work; you will get it back unscored (with a zero in the grade book). Remember that at all times your assignments and grades are your responsibility, and you must be willing to accept blame for potential failure just as you should take credit for your success. Furthermore, unless indicated otherwise by me, please do not share homework answers. No one involved in assignment sharing, even the people who did the assignment on their own, will receive credit.
  3. Please, do not sleep, work on assignments for other classes, or use electronic devices while in class. The high school’s cell phone policy applies in my room as well. You may lose these items and have to retrieve them at a later time. Also, if you are working on something else or sleeping during the lesson time, you will owe me that time during an after-school detention.
  4. Unless otherwise noted by me, please come to class every day with the following materials: your textbook/text materials, a pen or pencil, and paper. You will lose points from your grade every time you fail to do so. Also, please do not store your books in the classroom.
  5. I do not collect and/or grade notebooks; however, I do recommend that you have at least a pocket folder for storing materials you receive in class.
  6. To address one of the state standards, I would like to have my English classes participate in silent reading each Friday, whenever possible. This is your time to read a book, magazine, newspaper, etc. of your own choosing. However, this does not include textbooks or assignments for other classes. This is a graded assignment, and to earn the points, you will be asked to complete a written summary of and personal reaction to what you read in class that day. Anyone who does not use this time as prescribed will not earn the points for that day.
  7. In order to be eligible for any extra credit in my class, you must complete all of the required work as well. If you do not complete an assignment by its original deadline, you can still become eligible for extra credit. To do so, you must complete any missing work. You will then receive a check mark in the grade book instead of points, but you would then be eligible for extra credit to take the place of those points missing from the grade book.
  8. All other school-wide policies also apply in my classroom, so be certain you are familiar with these, especially rules regarding attendance, dress code, and use of cell phones and other electronic devices, as noted above as well.
