Current Scholarships available in Guidance

  • Rotary Club of Kernersville “Service Above Self” Scholarship – will award two $1,000 scholarships to students who exemplify the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.” The selection criteria are weighted in favor of those students who have demonstrated a propensity towards volunteerism and service to other individuals and organizations. Academics and extracurricular activities will also be considered. Must submit an application and a one-page essay. Applications are due to Student Services by April 7, 2016.
  • Burke-Joines Scholarship – will award a scholarship in the amount that will cover full tuition and/or books at Forsyth Tech, not to exceed six semesters. Applicants must be a resident of public housing; a rent-assisted unit; or have a family income at or below the poverty level in the city. Criteria include academic achievement, character, good citizenship, and qualities of leadership. Online applications are available by sending an email to ; applications are also available in the guidance department. Completed application packets must be received by the organization by April 8, 2016 in order be considered.
  • Stratford Rotary Club Scholarship – awards three $2,500 scholarships to Forsyth county seniors for their first year of college. Each high school can only submit one nominee. Criteria include minimum 3.2 GPA, evidence of leadership, community service, and evidence of financial need based on the FAFSA. Applications are due to Ms. Cannady in Student Services by Monday, April 11, 2016 (this is a Teacher Workday!).
  • Arlene Roza Scholarship – sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart. Will award a one-time $1,000 scholarship to a senior female who has a relative that received a Purple Heart Medal, and is planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college or university upon graduation. Applications are due to the organization by April 14, 2016.
  • Addison Simmons’ Memorial-Bobcat Alumni Scholarship – in association with the GHS Booster Club, seeks to award a Glenn Senior in honor of Addison Simmons. Student must have participated in a varsity high school sport during their senior year (unless precluded by injury); be in good standing and have met/will meet WSFCS graduation requirements; have been accepted to an accredited four-year college/university; and have actively participated in social, community, and church activities during their years at Glenn High School. Applications must be postmarked to the organization by April 15, 2016.
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Scholarships – will award scholarships in two categories this year: 1) The Phi Omega Scholarship will be awarded to three female seniors in the WSFCS system who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, community service, and leadership. 2) The Pearl Scholarships will be awarded to four female high school seniors who meet the above criteria but also will be attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, submit a two page essay, participate in school and community activities, and be a member of a minority or historically disadvantaged group. Completed applications and supporting materials are due to the organization on or before the April 15, 2016 deadline.
  • Kernersville Foundation – Lawrence E. Pope – will award grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to graduating seniors who are Kernersville residents and plan to enroll in a degree program in the field of agriculture, architecture, engineering, or the construction industry. Interested students are strongly encouraged to submit applications by April 15, 2016 to the Kernersville Foundation, attn: Arnold King.
  • Kernersville Lions Club Scholarship – $1,500 scholarship awarded to a Glenn and East Forsyth High School senior who will be entering college in Fall of 2016. Criteria include financial need, academic achievement, and participation in extracurricular activities. Preference given to students who are visually or hearing impaired (or who have parents who are visually or hearing impaired), and/or are participating in a service club, community service, or has work experience. Deadline to return completed applications to Ms. Cannady in Student Services is April 15, 2016.
  • Kevin Jennings Equality Winston-Salem Scholarship – will award up to $4,000 to deserving applicants who have shown leadership and vision in the Gay/Straight Alliance at his/her school or in the LGBTQ community. Must be a graduating senior from a WS/FC high school with a minimum 2.0 GPA and attending a 2- or 4-year college/university/technical school in the Fall of 2016. Applications must be received by the organization by April 15, 2016 @ 5pm.
  • NC Society of Accountants Scholarship – $600 scholarships given to students pursuing careers in accounting. Must enroll in a 2- or 4-year school in NC. Applicants must submit application, two letters of reference, a letter of intent, and parents’ 2015 income tax return. Completed applications are due April 15, 2016 to the organization.
  • Rotary Club of Kernersville – Forsyth Tech Scholarship – will award $2,000 to a Glenn student who will be attending Forsyth Tech to pursue an Associate’s Degree beginning Fall 2016. If the scholarship recipient completes the minimum 24 credit hours with a GPA of 2.5+ while at FTCC, he/she will be awarded another $2,000 for the 2017-18 school year. Application deadline is April 15, 2016 to Ms. Cannady in Student Services.
  • W. Gene Malloy Scholarship – awards scholarships between $500-$1,000 to graduating seniors planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college. Applicants must be Forsyth County residents, have a 2.0-3.5 GPA, and have demonstrated resiliency, strength of character, optimism, and concern and support for others. A 250-500 word essay is also required. Application deadline to the organization is April 15, 2016.
  • Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Association of Retired School Personnel – will award up to 2 scholarships of $1,000 each to local students who plan to major in education. Students should have exhibited evidence of scholarship, service to school/community, and be of good character. Applications must be returned to Ms. Cannady in Student Services by April 15, 2016.
  • Winston-Salem State University Scholarship – sponsored by the Kimberley Park Chapter of WSSU National Alumni Association. Will award a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to a graduating senior who will enroll as a freshman at WSSU in the Fall of 2016. Must be a graduate of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and demonstrate financial need. Completed application packages are due April 15, 2016.
  • Michelle Lakey Liddle Memorial Scholarship – will award a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to a Glenn senior who plans to attend a 2- or 4-year college upon graduation. Must have a minimum 3.25 weighted GPA, demonstrate active participation in a minimum of one after-school club, and exhibit involvement in community and church activities during his/her years at Glenn.   • Cash-Ibraham & Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Memorial Scholarships – will award several scholarships (amount to be determined later) to seniors in Forsyth County on the basis of need, potential, unique aptitude, leadership, and scholarship. Applications are available in Student Services, and must be returned by 1:45pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 (this is an Early Release Day!).
  • State Employees’ Credit Union “People Helping People” Scholarship – established by SECU to assist NC public high school students attend college. Each NC high school will have one senior receive a scholarship valued at $10,000 to attend one of the 17 public UNC campuses. Criteria include academic achievement (2.5+ GPA); leadership; character; integrity; and community involvement. Preference will be given to students whose parents are public sector employees in NC, but not employees of the State Employees’ Credit Union. Applications are available in Student Services and must be returned by 1:45pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 (this is an Early Release Day!).
  • Eric Head Memorial Scholarship –up to two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Glenn seniors in memory of Eric Head. Applicants must be students that display the ideals, athletic passion, academics, and church/community responsibility that Eric demonstrated. Criteria include participation in varsity high school athletics, 3.0 QPA (weighted GPA), and participation in extra-curricular and church activities. Applications are due to the Student Services Office by April 22, 2016.
  • NAACP Scholarship – will award several $500 scholarships to high school seniors from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system. Criteria include 2.5+ GPA, plan to enroll full-time in a 2- or 4-year accredited college or university, and demonstrate financial need. Applications must be submitted to the NAACP by April 22, 2016.
  • Brown Alumni Scholarship – $1,000 awarded to a graduating senior with a 2.8+ GPA who plans to attend Winston-Salem State University during the 2016-2017 school year. Essay and two recommendations required. Application deadline to the organization is April 27, 2016.
  • Jeremy Allen Sprinkle Memorial Scholarship – will award a one-time $1,000 scholarship to a Glenn senior who has plans to attend a 4-year college upon graduation. Applicants must have been involved in the last 3 years of the music program at Glenn (including his/her seniors year), and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. While preference will be given to applicants planning to major in a music-related field, this is not a requirement. Applications are due to the Student Services Office by April 28, 2016.
  • Independence Good Fellows Scholarship – will award a minimum $2,500 scholarship to assist with post-secondary education. Primary criteria include community service, financial need, and demonstration of moral character. Completed applications must be submitted by May 1, 2016 to .
  • Carl L. Clarke Scholarship – a $10,000 scholarship established to honor the life of Carl L. Clarke, former teacher, coach, and principal of Kernersville, East Forsyth, and Glenn High Schools. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be graduating senior from Glenn or East Forsyth High School. Two letters of recommendation are also required. Completed application materials are due to the organization by the May 5, 2016 deadline.

Online Scholarship Opportunities

  • SEANC Scholarship – for children of employees of the state of NC who are DUES-PAYING members of this organization. There are merit and financial need awards available; amounts vary. Applications are available online at ; April 15, 2016 deadline.
  • Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship – will be awarded to African-American senior males in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system. Criteria include academics, extra-curricular activities, financial need, and planning to attend a post-secondary college or university. Award amount to be determined later.   • Abbott & Fenner Scholarship Program – will award a $1,000 scholarship to any junior or senior. Must write a 500-1,000 word essay on the following topic: “Describe your educational, career, and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals.   • SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes – $500 scholarships for high school seniors. Free to enter. Fifteen chances to win; two winners every two weeks from October – May. Apply online at

Scholarships by Institution

  • Berea College (Berea, KY) – Every student at this school receives a four-year tuition scholarship. These scholarships are based on financial need. For more information, go to .
  • Livingstone College – Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter Scholarship. Will award a $500 scholarship to a student graduating from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and planning to enroll in the Fall of 2016. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate leadership ability, and participation in school and community activities. Application deadline is April 6, 2016. Late applications will not be considered.
  • UNC-Greensboro – UNCG Guarantee. Helps eligible NC students graduate with little or no debt. Qualified students receive a financial aid package, academic support, and opportunities for enrollment in the Lloyd International Honors College and study abroad. Visit for more information.
  • Winston-Salem State University
  • Kuandelea Alumni Chapter Scholarship –must be a graduating senior attending WSSU in the Fall of 2016. Criteria also include minimum 3.25, and a minimum 950 SAT (or 19 ACT score). Applications must be received by the university no later than April 15, 2016.
  • National Association of University Women Scholarship – a one-time $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from WSFCS attending WSSU in the Fall of 2016. Criteria include 2.5 GPA; 800+ SAT score (or 17+ ACT score); financial need; and school/community involvement. Application must be postmarked to the scholarship chairperson by April 18, 2016.
