I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Great Falls College Children’s Choir is a vocal ensemble designed for children ages Kindergarten through 8th grade who wish to expand their musical experience. The choral ensemble will perform a range of choral music encompassing a variety of musical periods and styles. The final grade in this course is dependent upon attendance, participation, and performance.
II. COURSE MATERIALS
Students will need to provide the following items:
Performance attire: Choristers will need to purchase a GFCMSU Children’s Choir Shirt. Girls will need to provide: black skirt or pants, black close-toed dress shoes, black stockings. Boys will need to provide: black dress pants, black belt, black dress shoes and black socks.
Music will be provided by the instructor.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The students who successfully complete this course with a grade of “C” or better will be able to:
a. Present the music studied with correct rhythms, pitches, and dynamics in public performance;
b. Gain an awareness of individual part within the fabric of the entire ensemble;
c. Demonstrate an expressive use of the voice while employing healthy singing technique;
d. Participate in the development of the choral sound;
e. Sing a wide variety of music;
f. Demonstrate an increased scope of experience as a musician;
g. Display professional standards of stage presence and concert etiquette during public performance.

**PERFORMANCES FOR THE GREAT FALLS COLLEGE CHILDREN’S CHOIR MAY BE ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE AS OPPORTUNITIES ARISE. EVERY ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO SCHEDULE THESE PERFORMANCES ON TUESDAY EVENINGS**
V. STUDENT EVALUATION
1. Writing Assignments: **NOT REQUIRED OF STUDENTS REGISTERED THROUGH LIFE LONG LEARNING. Each student will be expected to complete two writing assignments during the course of the semester. Two sets of writing prompts or topics will be provided to you. You will select one from each set and submit them by the posted dates (See Course Calendar). Each assignment should be submitted to the dropbox in D2L by the due date specified. Each assignment should be a minimum of 500 words.
2. Attendance/Participation:**PASS/FAIL GRADES ONLY AWARDED TO STUDENTS REGISTERED THROUGH LIFE LONG LEARNING. LIFE LONG LEARNING STUDENTS MUST ATTEND AT LEAST 75% OF REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES IN ORDER TO PASS THE CLASS. These are required for this course. You are expected to be an active participant in learning the music with your fellow choir members. Please be on time to rehearsals and concert warm-ups. You cannot make up a missed rehearsal. Your absence from class not only impacts your preparation of the music, but your entire section. Making music in the College/Community Choir is a team effort!
**CARNEGIE CHOIR: IF YOU MISS MORE THAN 5 REHEARSALS, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO SING IN CARNEGIE HALL. CARNEGIE HALL CHOIR WILL CONTINUE TO REHEARSE ON MAY 12 AND MAY 19. Absence from a concert performance MAY result in a failing grade for the semester.
3. Grading Scale: :**PASS/FAIL GRADES ONLY AWARDED TO STUDENTS REGISTERED THROUGH LIFE LONG LEARNING. LIFE LONG LEARNING STUDENTS MUST ATTEND AT LEAST 75% OF REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES IN ORDER TO PASS THE CLASS. Grades will be awarded on the point system. Choristers will earn ten points for each rehearsal, one hundred points for each writing assignment and one hundred points for each performance.
Rehearsals: 160 points for attendance
Performances: 500 points for performances
Writing Assignments: 200 points for the writing assignments.
Total: 860 points are possible.
Letter grades will be assigned as follows:
774 to 860 points = A 516 to 601 points = D
688 to 773 points = B 515 points and below = F
602 to 687 points = C
