We hope everyone enjoyed the first edition of the newsletter. We are still working out the kinks so you may see some changes in the editions to come. We have included some valuable and important information in this edition. If there is any information or ads that you would like to see or you need to put in the next edition of the newsletter, please contact Stacey Nicholson at 972-3239 or . We are looking for a computer savvy teen or parent that would be willing to get Foothills’ website up and running again and also to maintain the website. This could be counted as a computer science credit. If you are interested contact Kim @ 972-1366 or .
******************** / WELCOME! If you are a new Foothills memberyou will need to attend a MANDATORY orientation meeting at 6:00pm October 7, 2005 at Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca. Bring your planbook with you; a brief instructional presentation will be followed by a Q & A session. Refreshments will be served for all attending. This meeting will cover all Foothills requirements and help the new homeschooler with recordkeeping and curriculum issues. Parents of HIGH SCHOOL students will additionally be offered a High School Transcript Workshop (see description on page 2) to simplify the complex issues of issuing and documenting high school credits. The Orientation is MANDATORY to new members. If you cannot attend due to an emergency, please call 972-2460.
Directions from Clemson: Take Hwy 123 to Seneca. TL at light at Ingles. Go 5 lights or so and TL onto Hwy 59. TR at 3rd light (6th st.-Plez U is on left) TR-Trinity is on R. Pull into 1st driveway and go around to back. DO NOT park below at the Preschool area.
Curriculum needed: For Foothills Members who are in financial need—If you have any curriculum you are no longer using, please call Kim at 972-1366.
Up coming field trips!
Oct. 13th: Wildlife Presentation @Webb Wildlife Center @ 1pm. We will have a picnic to follow at the Botanical Gardens. We will meet at the Gold=s Gym in Clemson. We will leave promptly @ 12:30pm. We will be going to the Botanical Gardens for a picnic lunch following the field trip. / Nov. 10th: Tour of Wilderness Way Girls Camp School @ 1pm. We will meet at Seneca Baptist on Hwy. 59. We will leave promptly @ 12:30 pm. There is no charge, however I would like to give them a love offering to help with the expense of running the camp school. Please sign up by Nov. 1st.
There is also a trip to Paint It Purple pottery in the works for Dec. 1st. The price will be between $5.50 and $11.50. In order for us to get the discount we need at least 25 people. The deadline to sign up is Nov. 10th and the money will be due by Nov. 17th. There will be reminders and more info. sent out via the e-mail chain and the TCHE newsletter. Seneca Co-op Classes

Seneca Co-op Classes began Sept. 1 and have been a great success! Sign ups for the next 9 weeks begin October 13 for classes starting Nov. 3. Classes to be Offered are as follows:

Hands-On Science Explorations

K-5----Human Body-Fearfully and Wonderfully made

6-12------Human Body/DNA to be determined

Literature

Using Progeny Press Literature Guides and feature vocabulary skills and Composition and will include writing instruction and conclude with a report using visuals completed by each student.

The following courses will cost $10 and the parents will need to provide a copy of the book.

K-2------Adventures in Reading w/ Mrs. Stacey

3-5------Sarah, Plain and Tall

6-8------The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein

9-12------The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein

*All courses will last 9 weeks

High School Transcript Workshop

What counts as a credit? Can I use my job as an Auto Mechanic as an elective? What about college? How do I teach Chemistry? Don=t miss this workshop! It will answer all of these questions and more! Tandy Collier, veteran homeschooler and SCHEA board member, is offering a High School Transcript Workshop for all homeschoolers. This is a wonderful opportunity if you have a high school student or will have one in the future. All of your questions regarding curriculum, credit hours, electives, and options for college will be answered. You will also leave the meeting with a Transcript/Portfolio notebook with dividers, ready to insert the child’s work. You will need to bring pencil and paper, a 3" 3 ring binder, 30 dividers, and a list of high school courses already taken or currently taking. It is recommended that Student(s) and both parents need to attend. Please call Kim at 972-1366 to sign up by October 1 so that ample copies can be made.

The optional book, “How to Homeschool High School”by Tandy Collier (a valuable resource) will also be available for purchase at the meeting for $25.00.
