Songs of Many Waters; Sunday, August, 8, 2010, 7 -9 p.m.

At Pier 11, Atlantic Basin, Red Hook, Brooklyn

From oceans to puddles, songs of the seas, lakes, canals, and the ships and sailors who sail them. A singalong evening aboard an historic tanker, the Mary Whalen. Bring voices, instruments, and ears. Bring the kids. Bring a picnic. This will be a grand evening for the whole family.

When: TankerTime aboard the Mary Whalen starts at 5:00 p.m. Come early and hang out before the music starts

Where: On board the Mary Whalen; Pier 11, Atlantic Basin, Red Hook, Brooklyn. See www.portsidenewyork.org and get directions (pdf format). From Brooklyn take the #61 bus. From Manhattan, getting there is half the fun: take a free 15-minute ferry from Pier 11 (bottom of Wall Street) to Ikea, and then walk or take the No. 61 bus to the mooring.

The Folk Music Society hosts other regular monthly sings: a community open sing in Brooklyn, and a sacred harp sing in Manhattan. The Society also has, concerts that usually include songs with choruses, 3 residential weekends each year outside of NYC with 2 or 3 days of shared singing and more, and other opportunities for shared singing.
