FERRARI SETS THE PACE FOR MELBOURNE

Ferrari has proven it will have the cars to beat when the 2008 Formula season kicks off in Melbourne on 16 March with both Ferrari drivers setting pace at the first official test session for all the Formula One teams, which is being held in Spain this week (14-16 January 2008).

The first test session is being very closely watched this year due to all the rule changes that have affected the engines and, with the elimination of traction control, the chassis, putting much more of the driving effort back in the hands of the driver. The test session Jerez is the first opportunity to see how the new cars rate against each other and how the drivers are coping with the rule changes.

World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time in his new Ferrari with a lap time of one minute 19.845 seconds. His team mate, Felipe Massa, was just 0.3 seconds behind the flying Finn, marking the Ferrari F2008 as the quickest car, regardless of who is behind the wheel.

Massa has already said that the 2008 season is set to be one of the most exciting ever with four drivers challenging for the top position and rule changes putting the emphasis back on driver skills. The Brazilian also believes that this means that action will begin right from the start of the 2008 FORMULA 1™ ING Australian Grand Prix as drivers fight to control their cars without the aid of traction control.
