Feedback Summary Responses – June 2012

1. General

Security pop-up screen: Many people have reported that the security pop-up appears when clicking on various pages in the site.

We believe this to be a problem with older browsers. If you are using IE6 or IE7 (and have the ‘permissions’ to change your browser settings), you should be able to clear the pop-up by:

1.Opening your browser

2.In the top menu select ‘Tools’

3.Select ‘Internet Options’

4.Select ‘Security’ tab

5.Select ‘Internet’ (if not already selected)

6.Select ‘Custom level’.

  1. Click on (and tick) ‘display mixed content’

2. Data Tables

a) The HS drop-down box is not large enough to read the full description.

The drop down box can be enlarged by clicking on the dotted arrow at the bottom right of the box and dragging to the required size (see diagram below)

b)Code search: It has been suggested that a code search would be useful next to the HS boxes.

This is something we cannot do straight away, but is something we will consider for future enhancement.

c) How do I add net mass and/or supplementary units to my tables?

You can do this by clicking on the Add More Measures tab at the top of the table:

Full details onAdding Net Mass and/or Supplementary Unitsare included in the Help tab on this page.

d) Other issues we are looking at as possible future developments include:

  1. Renaming the ‘EU Indicator’ tab to something more meaningful;
  2. Including UK/Grand total as an option in ‘Country’ without having to select everything in the RTS area.

3. ICN Online

a) Can the whole ICN be downloaded into an Excel spreadsheet so that it can be printed out?

We have produced this for you. It is available in the ICN’s Info and Help tab. Just click on Help, and then click

on ICN Commodity Codes and Descriptions (xls)

b) Other issues we are looking at as possible future developments include:

  1. Putting the chapter headings on the default page of the ICN
  2. Adding a navigation button to allow users to return to a previous page
  3. The ability to print single/multiple pages

c) Subheadings and codes. It has been pointed out that the subheadings are indistinguishable from the actual code (i.e. subheading 847170 in the same font as the code 84717020.

Unfortunately, we have no control over this – the files are produced in Brussels to their specifications, which are then loaded into the ICN database.

d) We have had a request to list commodities according to product categories, e.g. Packaging Machinery for Frozen Foods, or Packaging Machinery for Chocolate etc.

As previously stated, the information we present is in the manner it is produced in Brussels. It is possible to propose changes to Brussels – the Proposing a Change to the Combined Nomenclature link on the CN documents page (path= Codes and Guides>Goods Classification SystemCN Documentsoffers help on how to do this.

5. Importers Details

a) Printing your search results. We have been asked why you can now only print off one page at a time, and why it displays only a limited number of lines.

We are looking to improve the print facility. In the meantime, we have introduced the Save File facility. Click on this button (situated at the top left of the search result screen) and all your results (subject to the current 15,000 record limit) will be downloaded into an Excel spreadsheet which you can then filter/order according to your needs.

b) Is there a way to separate out the months on the spreadsheet?

Yes there is. (The following is for Microsoft Excel 2003) :

  1. Once you have the information you want, click on Save File. This will give you the download option. Click on Open.
  2. You will see your information entered as a csv file. Highlight the last column (the Month Imported)
  3. Click on the Data tab then Text to Column and follow the wizard (as explained below)

  1. From the screen produced, click on Delimited then Next (screen 2)
  2. From the next screen, click on the Tab box to remove the tick there, and click on the Comma box to tick it., then click on Finish (screen 3)

The months will now appear in separate columns in the spreadsheet.

6. Exchange Rates

Printing exchange rates. We are aware of the issues when attempting to print out the exchange rate results and are working to resolve them.

As an interim measure, we have provided the rates (in pdf format) in the Related Links section of the Exchange Rate page which can be printed off.
