FAMILY LIFE AND EDUCATION DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

I.  Statement of Purpose

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids seeks to glorify God the Father by faithfully proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, developing mature disciples, nurturing a loving fellowship, participating in ministry and engaging in meaningful worship. The position of Family Life and Education Director is staffed to contribute to the fulfillment of this purpose and specifically to the discipleship of children, youth, and young adults, single and married.

II.  Education and Youth Director Personal Qualifications

A.  Personal Qualifications

·  Be a Christian believer who loves the Lord and is called to serve in His church.

·  Be committed to their personal spiritual growth.

·  Be accepting of the creeds and standards of the Reformed Church in America.

·  Demonstrate a love for children, youth, adults and families and an interest in their lives.

B.  Professional Qualifications

·  Ordained or non-ordained.

·  a post-high school education in a field related to the requirements of the position.

·  Demonstrate a creativity and ability to integrate new styles and ideas into the church’s ministry to children, youth and young adults with vision and goal setting.

·  Possess people and administrative skills.

·  Be a self starter and a cooperative member of staff ministry.

·  Be aware of and sensitive to the congregations concerns for activities appropriate to the keeping of the Lord’s Day.

III.  RESPONSIBILITIES WITH THE YOUTH PROGRAM

A.  Plan and program activities for the spiritual growth, mission and community outreach of middle school and high school youth groups.

·  Mentor and coach youth in the development of their spiritual maturity and spiritual gifts.

·  Recruit, train and mentor volunteers as a support team who will help with implementing programs, fund raisers, and develop relationships with the students.

B.  Provide counsel and pastoral care for youth in dealing with personal or family situations.

C.  Support our youth in their school and community interests.

D.  Assist youth in planning the annual Youth Sunday Service.

IV.  RESPONSIBILITIES WITH THE SPIRITUAL FORMATION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH

A.  Administrate the current Christian discipleship program to include but not limited to the recruiting and training of volunteers, youth sponsors, Sunday School Teachers, Youth Club Staff, Children and Worship Leaders and other education volunteers as needed. The education committee will assist in this process as needed.

B.  Responsible for evaluating and recommending curriculum to the Christian Education Committee that will be used for Sunday School, Youth Club and Adult Electives.

C.  Responsible for leading and developing the Wednesday night education programs.

V.  RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG ADULTS

A.  Explore and implement discipleship opportunities for young adults, including:

·  Married couples with or without children

·  Young career adults

·  College students

B.  Partner with parents to work together to spiritually train their children.
