Two to three page description (1” margins, 12 pt. Times New Roman font) of your proposed research initiative/activity; plan for use of funds,specific plan for meaningful mentor-mentee relationship, intended outcome(s), and the potential value of this research mentoring program to you (not to exceed three single-spaced pages; no appendices). Your description should be suitable for a general audience. Because the review and selection committee will encompass all of FAU’s colleges, your description should be written in terms an educated layman can readily understand.
Itemized budget with justification for mentee’s proposed research initiative/activity.
Letter of support from the mentor.
Mentee curriculum vitae (2-3 pages max)List external grants received over the past five years with award totals.

Review and Evaluation Process:
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the University Research Committee whose members represent all 10 of FAU’s colleges including Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Mentee applications will be evaluated and scored based on the following criteria:
Research Focus
Is the proposed research initiative/activity and its importance clearly articulated?
Experience & Compatibility
Does the proposed research initiative/activity build upon the strengths of the mentor/mentee partnership?
Does the mentor have a record of significant extramural funding?
Engagement
Does the application demonstrate a plan of action for meaningful engagement and interaction of the mentee and mentor?
Use of Funds
Does the proposed research initiative/activity include a realistic and fiscally responsible description of how funds will be used (NOTE: salaries and stipends are not allowed)?
Intended outcomes and benefits
Does the application clearly articulate how the research mentoring program will benefit the applicant, including intended outcome(s)?
Value
Does the application clearly articulate the potential value of the research mentoring relationship to the applicant?
Does the proposed research initiative/activity demonstrate the potential to obtain external grant funding?
Mentees will be notified of the status of their application by the Division of Research in late spring.
