EXCELLENCE IN PRODUCT DESIGN

Nominations are open to any manufacturing company that has introduced a manufactured product resulting from a formal product design process, where that process took place in the Hunter, Central Coast or mid-north Coast Region.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING DEFINITION BEFORE COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO ENSURE YOU ARE SUBMITTING IN THE CORRECT CATEGORY.

“Product Design is the process of taking of an invention / innovation through to mass production. The process should address the following points –

  1. Form
  2. Function
  3. Quality
  4. Safety
  5. Environmental Sustainability

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR APPLICANT –Product Design does not refer to the development of a ‘one-off’ product.

The application must

  1. List the name and product code of the product being submitted.
  2. A number of images must be included showing the product from all sides with detail images of significant features, particularly any control panels or user interfaces.
  3. The application should show that both the form of the product and the function of the product are well analysed and thoroughly resolved.
  4. It should also show how the design facilitates the achievement of quality during manufacture, how the design delivers safety to all stakeholders and how the design has minimised the impact of the product on the physical environment.

The judges will look for examples of product design where the goals listed above are sought through synergies between objectives rather than compromises in one objective to promote another.

To ensure that your submission includes some of the comments necessary to target the issues which are considered by judges in the Product Design category of HMA, some example links have been provided to assist you as a guide as to what is considered Best Practice. Please see below.
