Course Syllabus for TAR1120C Architectural Drawing

Course Description from the Valencia Catalog:

This course covers residential design and drafting with additional study in aspects of housing, aesthetics, and working drawings. Special fee: $46. 3 credits, 4 contact hours.

Prerequisites: A minimum of one unit of high school drafting or equivalent work experience in drafting or ETD 1100C for those students with no drafting experience.

ETD 1320 Intro to CAD also required. (formerly 4 credit/4 contact)

Class Meetings: 1:15 – 4:55 PM, Wednesday afternoons, 15 weeks; Room 9-204.

Note: Students must also purchase the workbook that goes with the text.

Materials:

Architect's and Engineer’s scales and an Architectural template (1/4” scale) will be helpful for the sketching assignments, but are available in the lab.

Student Performance Assessment:

Lecture exams, quizzes, homework, class projects, and the final exam will determine your course grade. Your final average will be valued according to the following grading scale:

Grading scale: 90 - 100% = A Grade Procedure: Midterm = 18%

80 - 89.9% = B Final = 18%

70 - 79.9% = C Drawings I = 18%

60 - 69.9% = D Drawings II = 18%

0 - 59.9% = F Portfolio = 10%

Homework & Quizzes = 18%

TOTAL = 100%

Software: In addition to manual drawing and sketching skills, this course will require students to enhance their CAD drafting techniques. Assignments will require the use of AutoCAD Architecture, SketchUp, and REVIT. Students are encouraged to download free versions of this software to use at home, and to make use of free tutorials and YouTube videos to become proficient with these programs.
