ALA’AMIN community school

The community of ALA’AMIN village has constructed a community school consisting of three rooms through community contributions. So far, the school has accommodated 26 students. Enrollment is expected to increase in the near future as more families are expected to be settling in on the community-owned school idea. It is also expected that more community contributions will be forthcoming in order to expand the current school to accommodate the anticipated increase in number of students. The village currently hasa volunteer teacher who replaced the teacher E4 Change had hired. This volunteer teacher teaches the students of ALA’AMIN community school in the mornings as well as the Adult school at BARGUUN village in the afternoons.

Adult School at BARGUUN School

Several discussions with community elders of BARGUUN, MACRUUF and ALA’AMIN villages with the help of community elders, has resulted in the opening of an adult school consisting of 77 students from the above mentioned villages. The Adult school program operates in the afternoons in BARGUUN and was started at the end of October 2014.

Library Project

E4 Change staff met withrepresentatives ofthe Kelafo district school board as well as the District administration and it was agreed that a library should be built at Kelafo high school. We are in the process of hiring a project coordinator who will carry on the overall project responsibility and supervision. We are planning on bringingin some resources from Canada. While some books will be brought from Canada, it is anticipated that most books / texts will be sourced locally from Ethiopia. The plan is to build a one room library which is equipped with the needed resources and the first of its kind in the district. E4 Change will equip, maintain and upgrade the library for the duration of the project. A library clerk will be hired for the library and his /her salary will be taken care of by E4 Change.
