Downloading Your eBook

Step 1: Where do I go?

Depress “Ctrl” and click on the type of eBook version you would like to download. Then follow the appropriate directions below.

Kindle:

Sony:

IBooks:

Nook:

Amazon Kindle

Step 2: Downloading the eBook to your Kindle

Download the book to your desktop. You will not be able to open this file type on your computer.

Connect your Kindle to your computer via a USB cable. After drivers are installed, you can see your Kindle device as a disk drive. (On a Windows-based computer, this will show up by clicking the "My Computer" icon. On a Mac-based computer, this will show up as an icon on the desktop.)

Navigate to the "documents" folder on your Kindle device.

Copy and paste your downloaded eBook from its current location on your computer to this "documents" folder on your Kindle device.

Safely eject the device. (On a Windows-based computer, click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the bottom-right of the toolbar. On a Mac-based computer, drag the Kindle icon to the trash can.)

Go to your Kindle. From the Menu, select Sync or Check for Items, and your book should download.

Apple iPad or iPhone

Step 2: Downloading the eBook to your iPad or iPhone

Download the book to your desktop. You will not be able to open this file type on your computer.

Add the eBook file to your iTunes Library on your computer. There are two ways to do this:

  • Go to the "File" menu, select "Add To Library" and navigate to where the eBook file is located on your computer.
  • You can also drag the file to the top-left portion of the iTunes window where it lists your Library options (see image to the right).

Connect your iPad or iPhone to your computer via the provided Apple cable which came with your device.

If your device is already set to sync Books from your iTunes library, your eBook will be available to view using the iBooks app on your iPhone or iPad once the sync completes. To change your Book syncing options, please do the following:

  • Click on your specific device when it shows up in the left column under "Devices."
  • Click on the "Books" tab towards the top-right of the iTunes window.
  • Check the box next to "Sync Books" to select it.
  • This will default to sync all eBooks in your iBooks library every time you connect your device to your computer. You can, however, change the option to "Selected books" and manually pick which eBooks you want to sync onto your iPad or iPhone.
  • Click the "Apply" button at the bottom-right of the iTunes window to apply the new settings and begin syncing the device.

Barnes & Noble Nook

Step 2: Downloading the eBook to your Nook

Download the book to your desktop. You will not be able to open this file type on your computer.

Connect your Nook to your computer via a USB cable. After drivers are installed, you can see your Nook device as a disk drive. (On a Windows-based computer, this will show up by clicking the "My Computer" icon. On a Mac-based computer, this will show up as an icon on the desktop.)

Navigate to the "My Documents" folder on your Nook device.

Copy your downloaded eBook from its current location on your computer to this "My Documents" folder on your Nook device.

Safely eject the device. (On a Windows-based computer, click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the bottom-right of the toolbar. On a Mac-based computer, drag the Nook icon to the trash can.)

After disconnecting the device, you can view the eBook by clicking "My Library/My Documents."

Sony eReader

Step 2: Downloading the eBook to your eReader

Download the book to your desktop. You will not be able to open this file type on your computer.

Use the software created by Sony, entitled Reader Library. To download Sony Reader Library please visit: Open the Reader Library.

Plug your Sony eReader to your computer via USB.

The Sony Reader Library should recognize your eReader; if not, try turning it on or make sure the connections are snug.

On the left side of the Sony Reader Library, click on “eBook Store.” A page opens in the Sony Reader Library. At the top right corner, you want to click “Login into your Account.” If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one with Sony.

Once you are logged in, click on “Manage Devices.”

Authorize the devices you want; if this is your first time, make sure to authorize your computer and the Sony eReader so you can download eBooks from Overdrive and/or NetLibrary.

Once your computer and eBook reader is authorized, you can download eBooks from NetLibrary and/or Overdrive. The .ACSM file downloaded from those sites will automatically open by the Sony Reader Library and the eBook will be downloaded to your computer. If somehow the Sony Reader Library does not recognize the .ACSM automatically, drag the file into the “Library” on the left column of the Sony Reader Library.

If you would like to transfer eBooks from your Sony Reader Library to your Sony eReader, just drag the file you like into the “Reader” tab on the left.

To see the ebooks you have purchased and added to your account, click on 'My eLibrary'.

You will now be able to see your eBook selections. To the right of each eBook title, below 'Open Book,' you will see text which reads 'Download Now (For Adobe Digital Editions users)'. Click on the text for each book you wish to download, it will not cost you any further money.

The downloaded file may ask you if you wish to 'open' it with Digital Editions or Sony Reader Library or 'save' it to your file system. Save the file to a location where you can find it, such as the desktop.

The file will download as a file with the extension type '.ACSM'. This file is an activation key which will allow you to open the file using the Sony software, “Reader Library.” In this case, right-click your mouse on the file, select 'OPEN WITH' and select “Reader Library.”

The eBooks should now download into your Sony software and you can then transfer them to your Sony eReading device by dragging-and-dropping the file to the device, which will appear as 'reader' in the left column of 'Reader Library' program. If the eBook is large, a progress bar may appear as the eBook is copied. When finished, eject the eBook using the 'Eject' icon next to it on the left-hand tab of the Sony software and disconnect your Sony Reader.
