Graduation Latin Honors

2.1Academic honors eligibility is based on both the resident GPA and the total GPA with the student having a minimum of 30 Resident credits. (Total GPA is determined based on all transfer and resident work.) A student must earn the minimum GPA at each of the levels of distinction listed below in both computations (resident and total GPAs). Academic honors will be recorded on the final transcript for bachelor's degree students who have earned a minimum of 30 semester credits in residence, with at least 27 of those credits graded with letter grades, and who earned the GPA listed below:

  • Summa Cum Laude 3.850 and above
  • Magna Cum Laude 3.600 to 3.849
  • Cum Laude 3.400 to 3.599

AtUW-Superior there are two Graduation honors notes on the official transcript.

  1. Degree Honors are calculated using both the resident and transfer grade points for students who have earned a minimum of 30 semester credits in residence, with at least 27 of those credits graded with letter grades. Graduating students must earn the minimum GPA at each of the levels of distinction listed below:
  • Summa Cum Laude 3.850 and above
  • Magna Cum Laude 3.600 to 3.849
  • Cum Laude 3.400 to 3.599
  1. Major Honors are calculated using both the resident and transfer grade points from the courses that are required for the major. Graduating students must earn the minimum GPA at each of the levels of distinction listed above.

Commencement

2.2At Commencement ceremonies, students graduating with honors will wear honor cords with academic gowns and will be recognized in the program. If a student has graduated prior to the term in which commencement is held, the commencement honors will be the same as those recorded on the final transcript.

2.3Students enrolled in their last semester during the term when commencement is held must have earned a minimum of 15 semester credits in residence prior to commencement and must be enrolled in a sufficient number of credits to total a minimum of 30 resident semester credits by the end of the commencement term. A minimum of 27 of these credits must be graded with letter grades. The honors categories for commencement are based on the GPAs listed above.

2.4Academic honors in a major are granted for students who have earned overall transcript honors and who have earned the above-specified GPA in both the resident and total GPAs in the major.

To learn about honors cords distributed for Commencement; see the Commencement section of this catalog.

Attendance at Commencement

2.2 UW-Superior conducts two formal commencement ceremonies each year in December and May. Individuals completing their studies during the summer term are invited to participate in the December ceremony or are given permission to walk in the May ceremony prior to their degree completion if they are enrolled for the remaining credits to earn the degree.Caps and gowns must be worn by all graduates at Commencement.

2.3Students become candidates for graduation upon submitting an electronic graduation application via E-Hive. Students must have the "expected graduation term" set to the correct term, in which they plan to graduate, in their E-Hive. Once this is done, a link for an electronic graduation application will be visible.
