Outstanding Work Opportunity at CREATE for STEM Institute

The Institute for Collaborative Research in Education, Assessment and Teaching Environments (CREATE) for the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Michigan State University is looking for one or more students with excellent writing and editing skills to work on projects that will support and expand the Institute’s communications efforts to reach its internal and external audiences more effectively. Well-suited candidates will have the opportunity to work full-time during the summer and to continue work during the academic year.

Duties:

Assist the director of communications with the development and curation of content for a complex, multi-purpose web site, and with plans for effective social media strategies. Work independently to gather information from CREATE for STEM faculty and staff about projects, publications and events. Learn how to turn that information into announcements, feature articles and summaries that add value to the Institute’s work. Learn to think strategically about the role of communications in advancing an organization’s mission.

Desired attributes:

Excellent writing, listening and note taking skills; interest in STEM learning generally and in learning how to write about it for wide and varied audiences in particular; working knowledge of html to enter, edit and format text on websites; familiarity with Drupal or another content management framework a plus; fluency in social media use; a flair for capturing and editing visual images for the web. Must bring energy, enthusiasm, curiosity and imagination to the work.

Commitments:

At least 10 hours per week, with the option to choose to work up to 20 hours per week. Position pays $10 per hour to start.
