Dear Coaches and Students:

You are cordially invited to the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Invitational Tournament! Our team is excited to host you all for a later starting but excellent tournament. We hope to see you all in Lexington, KY at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School on Saturday, November 11th.

CATEGORIES

We will be offering all KHSSL speech events. Please visit the KHSSL handbook for rules.In addition to the speaking events Congress, Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas debates will be offered.

ENTRIES

We will be offering unlimited entries; however, only the top three scores in each event will count toward sweepstakes. Students may triple in IE, but be aware that we will not hold rounds for a late performer. It is recommended that inexperienced competitors not triple enter. It is also recommended that students enter no more than 2 limited prep events. Students entering debate may only enter ONEdebate event.Debaters will not be permitted to enter IE. Each entry will be charged $5 with Public Forum, Duo Interpretation, and Improvisational Duo charging $10.

DEADLINE is4 pm Eastern on Wednesday, November 8TH. Any drops or adds after the deadline will be assessed $10 per entry. Substitutions are free. Please let us know about any changes (drops or substitutions) before Saturday if possible. Congress Legislation is due by the entry deadline.

JUDGES

You must provide one judge for every 6 entries or fraction thereof; 6 entries = one judge, 7 entries = 2 judges, etc. Duo Interpretation and Improvisational Duo count as 1 entry. Debate: you must provide one judge for every TWO entries or fraction thereof. In the event you cannot provide the required number of judges, you will be charged $35for each missing judge. Any judging drops will be charged $50 each. Your judges should be familiar with the KHSSL rules and ballots. There will be a short judges refresher and meeting prior to Round I. It is strongly recommended that all judges attend.

There will be a hospitality room full of yummy treats for the judges. In addition judges will have the opportunity to win a prize. For each round you judge you will be entered into a raffle! No, this is not a joke, and no, I will not tell you what the prizes are. Judges must be present at awards to claim the prize.

AWARDS

Speech awards will be given to the top 6 performers in each speech event. Next out awards will be given to the 7th place performer in each event. Debate awards will be given to the top three debaters/teams. We will award sweepstakes trophies for the top 3 schools in speech and top 3 schools in debate.

From the Mountain Parkway:Take the exit onto I-64 W. Take exit 113 for US-27/​US-68 toward Paris/​Lexington. Turn right onto US-27 S/​US-68 W/​N Broadway Rd. Turn right onto US-60 Bypass E/​New Circle Rd/​US-25 Bypass N/​US-421 Bypass N. Continue to follow US-60 Bypass E/​New Circle Rd. Take exit 5B to merge onto US-60 W/​Versailles Rd toward Versailles/​Bluegrass Pkwy. Turn left onto Man O War Blvd E. Destination will be on the right.

From Louisville: Take the exit onto I-64 E toward Lexington. Take exit 58 toward Versailles. Merge onto US-60 E/​Versailles Rd. Continue to follow US-60 E. Turn left onto US-60 E/​Lexington Rd. Continue to follow US-60 E. Turn right onto Man O War Blvd E. Destination will be on the right.

From Cincinnati: Merge onto I-71 S via the ramp on the left to I-75 S/​Louisville/​Lexington

Merge onto I-75 S. Take exit 115 for KY-922 toward Airport/​Lexington. Keep right at the fork and merge onto KY-922 S/​Newtown Pike. Merge onto KY-4 W/​US-60 Bypass E/​New Circle Rd/​US-25 Bypass N/​US-421 Bypass N via the ramp to Airport. Continue to follow KY-4 W/​US-60 Bypass E/​New Circle Rd.
