WYRE FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE WYRE FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL (OFF-STREET PARKING PLACES) ORDER 2017

STATEMENT OF REASONS

FOR PROPOSING TO MAKE THE ORDER

1.  Wyre Forest District Council (‘The Council’) is the owner of land which was the site for the former Bewdley Medical Centre (‘the Former Site’). The site of the new medical centre included land previously used for parking within the Load Street Car Park. Upon agreeing to the development on this site, the Council was intent on replacing these parking places by use of the Former Site once the medical centre was demolished.

2.  Worcestershire County Council owns land adjacent to the Former Site which is suitable for the use of a car park. Part of the Former Site is better suited to development. Worcestershire County Council and the Council are in the process of agreeing a land swap due to the suitability of the parcels of land for the proposed car park and potential redevelopment by the County Council.

3.  Following completion of the demolition of the current buildings on the site and the land swap the Council wishes to use the land in its ownership as a car park and to incorporate this land into the existing Wyre Forest District Council (Off Street Parking Places) Order.

4.  The effect of the Order shall be to add the land outlined in red in Annex A to the existing list of car parks within the Wyre Forest District Council (Off Street Parking Places Order). The new car park will be known as Load Street (Lower) and shall have the restrictions set out in Annex B. Charges for parking in the car park shall be at rate of the Dog Lane Car Park, Bewdley (currently as set out in Annex B but subject to any variation to the price or classification which may be made prior to this Order being made).

5.  The Order shall not be made until the completion of the demolition, the land swap and the development of the car park.
