*OPENING HYMN UMH#57

O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing (v. 1 – 4)

*****

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Flames of the Spirit)

O Most Holy God, many among us fail to feel the ways in which words,

titles, and phrases oppress the inner identity and emerging self of many

women.

We pray that your church may be freed from insensitivity to the power

of words and actions that bind women to economic injustice, sexual abuse,

and emotional injury.

May we become a people who truly live out in both our actions and our

language a life-style of equality, mutual respect, and appreciation for our

uniqueness. Amen.

LITANY BASED ON THE UMW PURPOSE

Leader:We are a community of people

People: Young, middle-aged, older; diverse in backgrounds,

appearances and gifts, yet celebrating that diversity.

Leader: Our purpose is to know God

People: To know You; sense Your joy; share Your sorrow; be part

of Your dream for a world where justice knows no

favorite, where all walk in dignity, sensitive to each

other's need

Leader: Our purpose is to experience freedom as whole persons

through Jesus Christ

People: By daring to be ourselves by loving ourselves and others in

the spirit of Christ who makes wholeness possible

Leader: Our purpose is to develop a creative, supportive fellowship

People: We accept that we will not always agree either in words or

actions, but we support one another in prayer and rejoice

in the variety of experiences and the unity in Christ that

we can share with one another to become a caring

community

Leader: Our purpose is to expand concepts of mission

People: Growing in understanding through study, action and

reflection to extend our areas of concern and accepting

responsible action with a willingness to help

Leader: Through participation in the global ministries of the church

All: By sharing God's vision for humanity, not only in the

immediate community where we live but even to the ends of

the world.

COFFEE HOUR is a wonderful way to continue ourSundayworship, and a valuable part of the Fairhaven fellowship experience. Many of our congregation and church organizations sign up in advance to host a coffee hour, for which we are all grateful. Others pitch in with preparation and clean up. On the firstSundayof every month (CommunionSunday) there will be a basket on the "coffee" table for those who wish to make a monetary contribution to defray some of the cost of this vital gathering. Donations of cookies for upcoming fellowships will also be most welcome.
