Berlin. TAUT Max Berlin im Aufbau. Betrachtungen und Bilder des Architekten Max Taut.

Berlin, Aufbau Verlag, 1946. [27644] 16pp incl drawings, plans, maps. Dramatic pictoral wraps, 30x42. Has been folded at some point, else good copy. £165.00

Unlike his brother Bruno, Max Taut was a practical, down-to-earth architect throughout most of his life. This work, however, produced just after the chaotic end of WW2, is a semi-utopian vision of Berlin emerging from the ruins. After being almost silent during the Nazi period, Taut had become professor at the High School for Fine Arts, Berlin, 1945-1954. (He remained in Berlin and died there in 1976). This rare work envisages a great avenue with trams and private vehicles moving between east and west Berlin, underground transport interchanges, well landscaped Modern Movement and cottage estates and other new features.
