SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL
Furnish and install Horizontal Base Mounted Dry Pit Pumping Units complete with all accessories and appurtenances as shown in the plans and specified herein or as required for a complete operating system. Each Pumping Unit shall be rated for continuous duty in accordance with the operating conditions defined in Table 1 of these specifications. Each unit shall be furnished with pump, driver, horizontal pump/motor baseplate with (flexible coupling) (constant speed v-belt drive) (variable speed v-belt drive) and guard.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Qualifications of Manufacturers: The pumps shown and specified are based on the products manufactured by Chicago Pump, Aurora, Illinois. Catalog numbers and references are given only as an indication of the quality of materials and workmanship to be used. Pumps are to be engineered and manufactured under a written Quality Assurance program certified to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality System Standard. The Quality Assurance program is to have been in effect for at least five (5) years and shall include a written record of periodic internal and external audits to confirm compliance with ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
QUALITY CONTROL
The Dry Pit Pumping Units shall conform to all applicable requirements of ASTM, ANSI and Hydraulic Institute. For purposes of this specification, the revision and/or version of the referenced standards in effect on the date of public bid opening shall apply.
The Dry Pit Pumping Units specified shall be the products of reputable manufacturers who have been regularly engaged in the design, manufacture and furnishing of Wastewater Pumping Equipment for at least ten (10) years. The manufacturer of the pump shall assume full responsibility for compatibility of the supplied components with the application.
PUMP CONSTRUCTION
The impeller shall be of the open type, having not less than six (6) vanes, and shall be completely recessed so as to provide a flow path from the pump suction to the pump discharge without requiring the solids to pass through the impeller. The pump internal flow path clearances shall be such that whatever will pass through the suction will pass through the pump. The volute casing shall have a centerline discharge design and a minimum thickness of 3/4”. The impeller shall be keyed to the shaft and secured by a recessed self-locking nut.
The volute, impeller and removable back plate shall be cast of Ni-Hard iron, ASTM A532, Class 1, Type A, and shall have a minimum hardness of 550 Brinell.
A large removable cast iron packing housing conforming to ASTM A-48, Class 30 shall be furnished and shall include a split bronze packing gland, a bronze lantern ring and not less than five (5) rings of graphite impregnated acrylic packing. The packing housing shall be tapped for a lubrication line. The pump shaft shall be of high grade alloy steel, type AISI 4140, heat treated and stress relieved. A shaft sleeve of type 440C stainless steel with a minimum hardness of 550 Brinell shall be provided to protect the shaft from wear at the packing housing.

SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS
The pump power frame shall include a set of double row ball bearings designed for both radial and thrust loads. Alemite fittings shall be furnished at each bearing for grease lubrication. The pump bearing housing and bearing retainer shall be of cast iron conforming to ASTM A-48, Class 30.
As a precaution against casing fracture when field connecting piping to the pump, the pump shall be furnished with split-ring ductile iron flanges in lieu of rigid Ni-Hard iron flanges. Rigid slotted or cored Ni-Hard flanges shall not be acceptable. A discharge adapter plate shall be drilled and tapped for a 1/4" pipe plug to facilitate gauge connections.
The pump support feet and power frame foot shall be of cast iron conforming to ASTM A-48, Class 30. A common fabricated steel baseplate with grout holes and deep channel drip lips shall be provided for mounting the pump and drive. Drainage connections shall be furnished at both ends of the channels.
The pump shall receive one coat of an environmentally safe machinery enamel coating with a high solids content.
DRIVE ARRANGEMENTS
Select one (1) of the following drive arrangements
1. Constant Speed, Direct Connected:
The pump(s) shall be direct connected through a flexible coupling to a ______HP, ______RPM, ______V, ____PH, _____ Hz, horizontal, normal thrust, solid shaft motor(s) in an (open drip proof) (totally enclosed) (explosion proof) enclosure. Motors shall conform to NEMA design B, general purpose, constant speed specifications, and shall meet all the requirements of IEEE and NEC.. A coupling guard shall be provided to protect personnel from rotating parts at the coupling.
2. Constant Speed, Belt Transmission:
The pump(s) shall be driven by ______HP, ______RPM, ______V, ____PH, ___ Hz, horizontal, normal thrust, solid shaft motor(s) in an (open drip proof) (totally enclosed)
(explosion proof) enclosure. The motor and pump shall be connected by a V-belt drive which will operate the pump at a rated constant speed of ______RPM. A means to adjust belt tension shall be incorporated in the drive assembly. A drive guard shall be supplied for the drive assembly.
3. Variable Speed, Belt Transmission:
The pump(s) shall be driven by _____HP, ______RPM, ______V, ____PH, ___60 Hz, horizontal, normal thrust, solid shaft motor(s) in an (open drip proof) (totally enclosed)
(explosion proof) enclosure. The motor and pump shall be connected by an open type variable speed belt drive assembly having an output speed range of ______RPM minimum to ______RPM maximum. A hand wheel to vary the output speed shall be incorporated as part of the drive assembly. A drive guard shall be supplied for the drive assembly.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
A. Stainless steel pump shaft – The pump shaft shall be machined from AISI 416 stainless steel, turned, ground, and polished.
B. Mechanical seals - The seal housing shall be provided with a double type mechanical seal with precision lapped, carbon vs. ceramic faces for true sealing. The mechanical seal shall be lubricated by (fluid from the pump discharge after passing through a replaceable cartridge type filter) or (clear water from an external source).

C. Ceramic-coated shaft sleeve – The shaft sleeve shall be type 416 series stainless steel with a ceramic coating having a minimum hardness of 600 Brinell.
D. Single-Row Pump Bearings (available only for units operating at 800 RPM or less) – The pump power frame shall utilize a set of deep-grooved single row ball bearings designed for both radial and thrust loads. Alemite fittings shall be furnished at each bearing for grease lubrication.
E. Grease cup - An automatic, 2-ounce capacity, spring loaded grease cup shall be furnished and installed on each pump to feed grease to the pump packing box. The grease cup shall be provided with an Alemite fitting for replacing grease.
F. Anchor bolts - Sleeve type imbedded anchor bolts shall be furnished for securing the pump to the foundation.
G. Suction adapter plate – A suction adapter plate shall be provided with a ¼” tap for a gauge connection.
H. Suction fitting with handhole (Applicable only to VTXN-H Frame 4412) - A four inch (4”) suction fitting with cleanout handhole cover plate shall be provided. The fitting shall include a 1/4” tap suitable for gauge connection.
TESTING
The natural frequency of the assembled pump and its supporting structure shall be at least 25 percent higher than the maximum pump excitation frequency. The pump shall operate within the vibration limits of the Hydraulic Institute
The pumps shall be performance tested at the manufacturer’s plant before shipment in accordance with Hydraulic Institute standards. Upon request, certified copies of the test curves shall be submitted to the engineer.
Each pump shall be hydrostatically tested at the manufacturer’s plant before shipment in accordance with Hydraulic Institute standards. Upon request, certified copies of the test results shall be submitted to the engineer.
FIELD SERVICE
____Days of Field Service shall be provided by an authorized, factory trained representative of the Pump Manufacturer. Services shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, inspection of the completed installation to ensure that it has been performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations, supervision of all field-testing and activation of the Manufacturer’s Prescribed Warranty.
The Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating the required field services with the Pump Manufacturer.

The pump shall be supplied with a floor ring, pump pedestal and suction elbow of cast iron conforming to ASTM A-48, Class 30. The suction elbow shall be drilled and trapped for a 1/4" pipe plug to facilitate gauge connections.
A motor support pedestal shall be provided for mounting the motor on a separate motor floor. Vertical shafting shall be provided to transmit power from the motor to the pump.
Pumps and supports shall receive one coat of an environmentally safe machinery enamel coating with a high solids content.
MOTORS
Each pump shall be driven by a vertical normal thrust solid shaft squirrel cage induction electric motor with a maximum horsepower and speed as specified. The motor shall have a (ODP) (TEFC) (TEXP) enclosure and shall meet all the requirements of NEMA, IEEE and NEC. Motors shall be rated for phase, ______volts, ____hertz electrical service.
