Congratulations to RJR senior, Eric Barefoot for being awarded the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill. We are so proud of you Eric, and we wish you all the best!
We reported a few weeks ago that Mr. Seth Beale was named Reynolds Teacher of the Year. This week we learned that Mr. Beale has been named a top 10 semifinalist for Teacher of the Year within our school system of more than 80 schools. Congratulations to Mr. Beale for this well-deserved recognition and for all the good you do for Reynolds students. We are honored to have you on faculty at RJR!
The Key Club is sponsoring a 24-hour basketball game and they are in need of players, especially girls! The game will be played Friday, March 30 (1st day of spring break) and is a fundraiser for Stop Hunger Now. If you are interested in playing or donating to the cause, please contact Mr. Beale, junior Chris Healy or any Key Club member. You can donate by the points scored, by the hours played or just by making a single donation. This is a competition between Mt.Tabor, Bishop McGuiness and Reynolds. Come on Demons . . . we need to win this one both with points on the board and dollars donated!
We look forward to the opening performance of the spring musical, The King and Ion Thursday, March 22. Hope you can join us for this great performance. We will need volunteers to take tickets at the door. If you can help with that, please let us know.

This week, our PTSA volunteers in the spotlight are Kathy and David Welch. They have served in a wide variety of volunteer roles over the past several years, including past PTSA presidents, college search, boys basketball, soccer and lacrosse team volunteers, and have been devoted student services volunteers over the span of six years! They are always ready to do whatever RJR needs done – from answering phones for a few hours in the summer, to planning and manning a concession stand, to a three-year PTSA leadership commitment! Kathy and David have given countless hours to ReynoldsHigh School, including many summer hours. Their two sons, alum, Austin (’10) and senior, Davis are spirit-filled Demons as well. With their younger son graduating this year, we wanted to stop and take a moment to thank the Welches for their deep dedication to R.J.ReynoldsHigh School. You led the way for many current volunteers and we thank you for setting such a great example for us to follow. ReynoldsHigh Schoolwill always remember the Welches with a smile full of gratitude!

The annual Donate-to-Educate Goodwill Drive started Friday, March 9th and lasts until Monday, March 19th. The Goodwill truck will be openfor donations before school (8:00 - 8:30) and after school (3:45 - 4:30). The truck will also be open on both Saturdays, March 10thand 17th, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This is our annual competition between area high schools so bring all of your donations . . . the heavier the better!! We want to bring the trophy back to RJR!! Tax forms are available.
The 2012 Baccalaureate service will be held on Sunday, June 3 at 7 p.m. in ArdmoreBaptistChurch. Seniors who wish to help plan and/or participate in the service should attend brief weekly planning meetings after school beginning Tuesday, April 17th. All meetings will be held in Mr. Allen’s room (210). If interested students cannot attend these meetings, please contact Jennifer Walldorf at .

The Key Clubs of RJ Reynolds High School and MountTaborHigh School in Winston-Salemand BishopMcGuinnessHigh School in Kernersville recognize that hunger is one of the greatest challenges facing our world. These Key Clubs have decided to come together this year to raise money to feed hungry school children in Sub-Saharan Africa through the STOP HUNGER NOW program. The United Nation’s World Food Program proclaims “There are more people hungry in the World than the combined population of the US, Canada and the EU.” The numbers are staggering -- over 925 MILLION people live in a constant state of hunger. STOP HUNGER NOW is a Raleigh- based international hunger relief organization with a focus on distributing meals to hungry children in Sub-Saharan Africa through school lunch programs. The goal is to raise enough money for 20,000 meals. To raise the $5,000 needed for these meals, the Key Clubs of RJ Reynolds, Mount Tabor and Bishop McGuinness High Schools are joining forces to hold the first ever FORSYTH COUNTY KEY CLUBS BASKETBALL MARATHON. The Basketball Marathon will run for 24 hours with teams from RJ Reynolds High School and MountTaborHigh School facing off and Bishop McGuinness providing sideline support through Moralers. We are asking that everyone come out in support of our efforts. Financial donations are clearly needed. Please say yes when you are asked to contribute!

It's time to clean out closets and PhiloMagnetAcademy (6th-8th grade) would love your outgrown/underused clothes! They have a Standard Mode of Dress that includes khakis (pants, skirts, shorts, capris), collared shirts in white or navy, and belts. This School of Distinction has a diverse student body that includes many low-income students who may not be able to replenish their school clothes this late in the year. Philo reached out to Reynolds service clubs asking for help in stocking their clothes closet. If you have any of these items (children's large through adult extra large sizes), please deliver them to the collection bins outside the media center, by the guidance office and in the arts building. This effort is sponsored by the Reynolds Arts Service Club (RASCals).The collection deadline is March 29th.
After the semester change, class ranks were recalculated. Some juniors are now eligible for induction into the Reynolds chapter of the National Honor Society. Juniors who want more information can find the list of eligible students outside Mrs. Wood's room (215) from March 12 - 23. Eligible students should see Mrs. Wood for application information.
The University of South Carolina will visit Student Services at 2:30 on March 20th.
Attention students taking AP exams in May 2012: On Feb. 13th, the School Board amended its former AP grading policy: Students only need to pay for & take their first 3 AP exams in order not to drop a letter grade in their AP courses (i.e. A student is taking 6 AP classes, but elects to only take 3 AP exams. That student will not be penalized a letter grade in any of their AP classes). Also, if ReynoldsHigh School students cannot afford their AP exam fees, but wants to take the AP exams, please contact Dr. Amy Williams at 336-703-4146 or via email: . There are some funds available for students with documented financial need.

A group of parents is working tirelessly on having a stadium built for RJ Reynolds High Schoolat HanesPark. Your support is needed!
The group has partnered with the Winston-Salem Foundation while completing its own non-profit status.
Development of a website is in the works and should be rolled out in the next few weeks.
If you cannot donate financially, your donations of time or resources are just as important and helpful.
The group is looking for people who have all types of skills and experiences including writing grants, working on websites and contacting RJR alums who have moved away from Winston-Salem.

The Dancing Boots are Giving Back!!
The RJR Dancing Boots willbe “stepping on some toes” as they“Take the Lead” for the BethesdaCenter for the Homeless at BentonConvention Center on Thursday, April 12th at 7:30 p.m.!
Since Take the Lead began in 2010, the event has raised nearly $300,000 for the BethesdaCenter for the Homeless, the largest emergency shelter for homeless men and women in ForsythCounty. In 2011, Bethesda served almost 800 of the community’s homeless, and has assisted more than 250 men and women in moving from shelters into their own housing during the last five years.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
The easiest way is to VOTE FOR THE BOOTS! Votes are $10 each (the cost to Bethesda Center for providing a person with one day and night’s shelter, supplies and food). Voting began on February 23rd and will continue until the finale event on April 12th. Just click on the link below to vote for the Boots! Or, give your donation directly to a Boot and she will turn it into Bethesda!

Sports physicals will be offered on Saturday, May 12 at 10:25. The cost is free but there is a suggested $10 donation. This is the best way to have your athletes’ physicals taken care of for the entire 2012-2013 school year.
