Watergrove parkrun
It was a very quiet week locally with very few athletics events locally. The Vernons 4 mile took place on Sunday morning from the factory Lane base, and Simon Denye was the first Wesham finisher in 6th place with a good 23:02 taking 2nd M40. David Taylor fresh from his marathon debut last week at Chester was 8th 23:29 and leading up to his 30th birthday. Steve Myerscough was 14th in 24:55, 4th M40. Chris Moss was 52nd with 29:50, 11th M50 and Alan Taylor finished 58th in 30:28. Ben Wrigley was 61st in 30:55; and Graham Vickers 74th in 32:09.
In the new West Coast Half Marathon running westwards from Preston to Lytham along the edge of the main A582 road there were three Wesham runners taking part. Paul Hetherington was 10th in 1:27:04, just 7 minutes adrift of local race winner Paul Muller. Nicola Unsworth was 6th woman and 3rd W45 in 1:42:30 finishing 47th overall. Jen Salt was 18th woman in 80th place with 1:49:09, an excellent performance.
John Howorth came 124th in the Race2Remember at Scorton on Sunday, completing the 8km off-road circuit in WyresdalePark in 61:24
There was more going on in the local parkruns at 9am as usual on Saturday morning, where Nicola Unsworth warmed up at the Lytham Hall run with 21:41 to record a W45 age graded performance of 73.94%. Wesham are gearing up for a club takeover and had a good turnout today; Phil Leaver ran 24:06 for M60 68.33%; Dave Young 24:25 for M65 70.65%; Sharon Cooper 24:46 for W40 63.06%; Kim McGuire 27:58 for a new personal best and W55 66.51%. Anne Berry completed her couch to 5k program with her debut 5km run and recorded an excellent 29:06 for W55 61.40%. Caz Wadsworth also ran a PB with 29:42 for W50 57.13%. Wendy Monnelly ran her debut with 30:27 for W50 55.76% accompanied by Kerry Eccles with a W50 57.91% followed by Debbie Bell in 30:46 for W40 50.76% with Helen Lawrenson who had paced all the first timers. Debbie Davies ran 31:13 for W50 53.71%; Clive Berry 31:57 for M50 46.17% and Charlotte Eccles a new PB of 34:29. Robert Brown ran the Preston parkrun in 25:11 for M55 63.14%while Michaela Dempsey finished the Keswick run in 25:44 for W50 65.15%. At the Watergrove parkrun outside Rochdale on a largely fellside course David Taylor kicked his legs back into shape with 19:49 posting the second fastest tine of the day with 65.18% on the graded course. Megan Gore posted a JW10 performance of 48.95% with a time of 35:51 while Steven Gore was on camera duty running 36:23.
