PROGRAM

Beanzie! Today was our annual Beanzie program. LaSalle County has institued a bunch of new red tape (permits, insurance, etc.), which turned out to be too difficult to put together at this point, so we’re not going into LaSalle this year. That’s necessitated some rerouting, but it’s all been taken care of now. Sign ups are doing OK, but more people need to sign up. If you have questions about your assignment, talk with Sue. We still need a couple of people for one of the stops (Rte 30 and Paw Paw road?). The number to get assistance from Bill F or anyone else will be (331) 442-4166 – that’s “Beanzie Central”. It’s a special number that will be activated probably Saturday. Look for a blast email from Sue sometime Friday for the sign-up schedule. SAG drivers are always needed. If you can help, contact Bill F. SAG drivers should have ice and water with them. If you can help on Saturday, meet at the high school at 9 am. Friday – 8 at the shed, 9 at the HS.

So far, we have 305 pre-registrations. We’re down about 60 registrations, but this year we’ve raised the fees by about $7. Last year we had about 725 total riders (of whom 100 were community riders). 63% came from out of DeKalb County. Most of those are from the Chicago area, but we do get some from out of state, and once we even had someone from France. We finally got mentioned in the Chicago Tribune this year.

The Rescue Riders are trained in accident scene situations. SAG vehicles and rest stops will have first aid kits. Don’t hesitate to call 911 for real emergencies.
