Brian Taheny emigrated to Canada with his wife Loretto Reid and family, in December 1988; from Sligo, one of the most famous musical counties for traditional music in Ireland. Brian plays Fiddle, Tenor Banjo, Guitar, Irish Bouzouki, Cittern, Mandolin, Mandola, Mandocello, Dobro and Bass guitar, and is also known for his innovative arrangements of traditional tunes.

Brian has built a solid reputation for himself as an extremely accomplished Celtic musician with strong and uniquely distinctive style.

During the past summers Brian has performed at major Canadian and American festivals some of which include: the Winnipeg Folk Festival; Vancouver Folk Festival; St. John's & Labrador Folk Festival; Goderich Celtic Roots Festival; Kentucky Folk Festival; Milwaukee Irish Festival; Saline Festival; Johnny Appleseed Festival, Fort Wayne; Cincinnati Festival; Detroit, MI., Pittsburgh, PA; South County Fair Festival, AB; Mission Folk Festival, BC; Summerfolk Festival, Owen Sound; Wye Marsh Festival, Midland, Mariposa Festival, etc. Concert performances include: Ford Centre for the Performing Arts, Massey Hall, Glen Gould Studio, Art Gallery of Ontario, du Maurier Theatre, Regent Theatre, Picton, Stanley A Milner Theatre, Edmonton; Irish Cultural Centre, Calgary; Capitol Theatre, Nelson, National Library Auditorium, Ottawa and many more. Television appearances include: CITY TV, CFTO, and GLOBAL TV, Toronto; CJOH, Ottawa; ATV, Maritimes; BCTV, BC; CHFD, N. Ontario; CHEK, Victoria and CKVR, Ontario. Recent radio shows/interviews in Canada, the USA and Ireland.

Brian is in high demand as a session musician, recent advertising campaigns that Brian has played on include: The Bank of Montreal; Bell Canada; Bank of Nova Scotia; Ontario Tourism; Egg Council of Canada; Keith’s Brewery; Guinness Brewery; Maine Tourism and many more. Recent session work on albums for: Dan Crary & Sam Bush (USA); James Keelaghan; Oliver Schorer (CDN); Traditional Irish performers: Seamus Tansey; Ena O’Brien; albums for Solitude’s label; to mention a few. As well as his ongoing performances with his wife Loretto Reid, Brian has performed with many of the greats in Celtic Music including: Jean Carignan, The Bothy Band; Altan, Dervish, Clannad, Paddy Keenan, Martin Carthy, Dick Gaughan, Pierre Schryer, Oliver Schorer, Martin Hayes, Noel Hill, Martin Simpson, Andy McGann and numerous others. Brian has performed on three national documentaries composed by his wife Loretto and released by The National Film Board of Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Brian has given workshops and masterclasses in - Fiddle; Guitar; Bouzouki; Banjo; Mandolin and Cittern from Yellowknife to Kentucky, Vancouver to St. John’s. Through his participation as a teacher at the annual Goderich Celtic College since its inception in 1995, he has taught over 200 students at this unique annual weekly camp.
