Job Description

Job Title:Bridge Master

Responsible to:Chairman and board of Trustees

Technical Committee

Responsible for: All bridge staff

Consultants and Contractors

Objectives

To manage all aspects of the bridge and its operations thereby ensuring that the bridge functions safely, in accordance with all statutory requirements and in the most efficient way for the users and the Trust

Key responsibilities

  1. Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory requirements
  1. Prepare and present to the Trustees a regular report of activities, a costed annual maintenance programme, provide a 5 year projection for major cost effective maintenance activities and any other items of high expenditure.
  1. Monitor bridge toll income and make regular reports to trustees
  1. Monitor bridge expenditure against approved budget
  1. Manage the formal inspection programme by Consultant Engineers and carry out routine inspections
  1. Supervise the implementation of the maintenance programme by direct labour and outside contractors
  1. Ensure that all procedures and requirements of health and safety legislation are carried out.
  1. Liase with the Clerk to the Trustees on all relevant matters
  1. Liaise with Local Authorities and interest groups.
  1. Liase with appointed consultants seeking advice, guidance and support when appropriate
  1. Appointment, training and management of all bridge staff
  1. Appointment and supervision of Consultants and Contractors in accordance with standing orders
  1. Supervise the day to day operation of the bridge, including liaison with emergency services and local authorities as necessary.
  1. Obtain Planning Permissions/ Listed Building consents for changes to the bridge as necessary.
  1. Liase and consult with local residents groups
  1. Respond to requests from the media and promote public relations
  1. High level supervision of the Visitor Services Manager and related activities
  1. Provide support to the Visitor Services Manager including occasional guided tours, talks and presentations as appropriate.
  1. Be available on call 24hours each day in the event of a major incident and arrange appropriate cover when not available.
  1. Undertake any other duties assigned by the Chairman and Board of Trustees and Technical Committee
