CONSTITUTION OF STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
NEW BROCKTONELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Article IName: The name of our council is New Brockton Student Government
Association.
Article IIPurpose: We, the student body of NewBrocktonElementary School, are
organized to promote this school’s higher education,and to develop good
citizens, good leaders, and good followers.
Article IIIA. Officers
- President—6th Grade
- Vice President—5th Grade
- Treasurer—5th or 6th Grade
- Secretary—4th Grade
- The council shall consist of one representative from each class from
third grade through sixth grade. This representative will be chosen by the homeroom teacher.
- The officers and representatives for the student council will be changed
each school year.
Article IV Qualifications
- All SGA Officers must maintain all A’s and B’s on each report card.
- All SGA Representatives must maintain A’s, B’s or C’s on each report
card.
- Officers must have been a student at NBES for a full school year.
- Officers must have an Approval Form from previous year’s teachers.
- If an officer obtains a grade lower than a B, and a representative obtains a grade lower that a C, that student will be placed on probation until the next report card. If the grade has not improved, that student will be removed.
- Good conduct.
- A representative is dependable, respected by his/her classmates, and is fair in dealing with others.
- The Principal and SGA Sponsors have the right to remove anyone due to grades, conduct, or office referrals.
1. Disciplinary activity for Class II violations will automatically result
in removal of student from SGA.
Article V Campaigns
- Students running for office will be allowed to campaign for two designated days.
- Students may display no more than three half sheet posters.
- Students may pass out hand made materials only.
- Students will give a speech no longer than two minutes. Speeches will be previewed by the principal or his designee prior to the speech.
- Students must have written permission from a parent or guardian in order to run for office.
Article VI Duties of Officers
- The President shall preside over the regular meetings of the student council, with the help of the sponsors and other officers.
- The Vice Presidents shall preside over the meetings in the absence of the President. The Vice President may conduct a meeting while he is serving.
- The Secretary will take the minutes of the meetings. The Secretary will call roll, keep a list of committees, and handle all correspondence.
- The Treasurer will report to the council the balance and for what, and how much money is earned since the last meeting from money projects.
Article VII Sponsors
- The sponsors should be present at all meetings and advise the council.
- Teachers in the homeroom should take 5-10 meetings after a meeting to discuss what is being done.
