1 ¾” Pre-connect Foam Attack

PURPOSE

This is a basic fire attack evolution with a single line and is applicable to 80% of today’s calls. Vehicle, dumpster, debris, natural vegetation and small exterior fires (i.e. sheds) can be fought from tank water and a single line.

With most of our engines CAFS equipped, many fires are fought from tank water. Therefore, it is paramount that we be proficient in the use and deployment of a single line.

OBJECTIVE

Advance 200’ of 1 ¾” hose line and extinguish simulated exterior class “A” or vehicle fire with .5% foam (or 150 gpm) at 100 psi nozzle pressure within 2 minutes 30 seconds. Time stops when all members are in proper PPE w/ SCBA and attack line is flowing the required flow rates.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

Captain: On scene report, command (mobile or fixed), orders “1 ¾” for Fire Attack”, 360, supervises operation and safety.

Engineer: Spots apparatus, pumps hose line, and stand-by for further assignment.

Firefighter 1: Gathers tools, extends pre-connect and fire attack.

Firefighter 2: Gathers tools, aids in deploying pre-connect, forcible entry (if applicable) and fire attack.

PROCEDURES

1.  Stage the engine company away from the simulated fire area. When personnel are ready, give the signal for the engine to proceed with the evolution.

2.  Start recording time when the engine comes to a complete stop with air brakes applied, or when the firefighter exist the cab.

3.  Time stops when the 1 ¾” hose is flowing water, and proper hand line placement has been achieved for fire attack.

4.  Ensure department policy is adhered to in seatbelt and PPE usage.
