GENERAL NOTES TO SPECIFIER:THIS SPECIFICATION SECTION HAS BEEN PREPARED TO ASSIST DESIGN PROFESSIONALS IN THE PREPARATION OF PROJECT OR OFFICE MASTER SPECIFICATIONS. IT FOLLOWS GUIDELINES ESTABLISHED BY THE CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS INSTITUTE, AND THEREFORE MAY BE USED WITH MOST MASTER SPECIFICATION SYSTEMS WITH MINOR EDITING.

1.02 Submittals

1. Product Data:
a. Surface material; include chips of actual material showing full range of color, pattern and texture.
b. Fire-rated particleboard.

2. Shop Drawings:
a. Show dimensioned plans, large-scale details and means of attachment to casework
b. Show location of accessory items and plumbing and electrical components installed in or on countertops.
3. Samples - following initial color selection:
a. Surface Materials: 8 by 10 inch (200 by 250 mm) samples of each color, pattern and texture selected.
b. Substrate: 8 by 10 inch (200 by 250 mm) piece of particleboard.
4. Quality Assurance/Control Submittals:
a. Qualifications: Proof of fabricator/installer qualifications.
B. Closeout Submittals: Reference Section 01780-Closeout Submittals; submit following items:

1.03 Quality Assurance
A. Overall Standards:
1. Perform Work in accordance with the [AWI "Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards"] [WIC "Manual of Millwork"] except as modified herein.
2. Provide [AWI Quality Certification Program [Certificate] [Labels]] [WIC Certified Compliance Certificate] [WIC Monitored Compliance Certificate] indicating that countertops comply with requirements of grades specified.
ADVANCED REGISTRATION OF A PROJECT WITH AWI IS REQUIRED FOR THE QUALITY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND WITH WIC FOR THE MONITORED COMPLIANCE PROGRAM. REGISTRATION IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DESIGN PROFESSIONAL. A REGISTRATION NUMBER CAN BE OBTAINED BY CALLING AWI AT (800) 449-8811, OR WIC AT (916) 372-9943.

A. Environmental Requirements: Operate HVAC system to maintain occupancy level temperature and relative humidity conditions from 24 hours prior to delivery of countertops through remainder of construction period.

1. Provide ample allowance for on-site scribing, trimming and fitting.
B. Plastic Laminate Countertops:

Part 3 - Execution
3.01 Examination
A. Examine casework or other support upon which counters will be installed. Verify adequacy of support.
B. Coordinate with responsible entity to perform corrective work on unsatisfactory casework or support.
C. Commencement of work by installer is acceptance of support conditions.
3.02 Preparation
A. Condition counters to occupancy level environmental conditions prior to installation.
B. Verify location of required cutouts and obtain templates for cutouts.
3.03 INSTALLATION
AWI AND WIC PROVIDE DETAILED INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS FOR COUNTERTOPS BASED UPON THE GRADE SELECTED IN ARTICLE 1.03 A. 3. SPECIFIER SHOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS IN THE EVENT IT IS DESIRED TO DELETE, MODIFY OR ADD ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS IN THIS ARTICLE.
A. Install countertops in accordance with [AWI Section 400] [WIC Section 16].
1. Scribe to fit where countertops abut other surfaces.
B. Follow surfacing material manufacturer's instructions for joints and seams.
C. Caulk space between backsplash and wall with sealant specified in Section 07900.
3.04 Cleaning
A. Reference Section 01740-Cleaning.
3.05 protection
A. Provide temporary protection to the work of this section from damage by other construction operations until [Substantial Completion] [final acceptance by Owner].
