The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the governing body of football in Wales and was formed in 1876.

The FAW is responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels from grass roots through to the professional game, including the Welsh Premier League and all international squads.

The Events:

The UEFA Champions League is the World’s most prestigious club football competition – “the best of the best on the ultimate stage”.In 2017, the UEFA Champions League Final (UCL Final) will be the single biggest sporting event in the world, commanding a live global TV audience in excess of 200 million.

In June 2015, UEFA’s Executive Committee announced that Cardiff would host both the Men’s and Women’s 2017 UEFA Champion’s League Finals and the FAWwas appointed by UEFA to deliver the events’ wide ranging requirements.

In order to deliver these requirements, the FAW has established a Local Organising Committee (LOC) – whose vision is based on three key principles;

  • Engaging an entire nation;
  • Delivering the best experience for all; and
  • To leave a lasting legacy.

The Role:

The UEFA Champions League Final attracts a large number of visitors and profiles the host city & country to a substantial global TV audience. It also generates an estimated economic impact of around £45m to the host city and surrounding regions.

In line with its objective of ‘delivering the best experience for all’, the LOC is recruiting a Visitor Experience Managerwho will be tasked with positively enhancing the experience of all those attending the 2017 Men’s and Women’s UEFA Champions League Finals. This includes:

-maximising the number of event attendees that stay in Cardiff and the surrounding region; and

-the amount of time they spend in Cardiff during the week of the two finals.

Main Responsibilities:

In addition to embracing the LOC’s Event Vision, the Visitor Experience Manager will also need to:

-Whenrequired, provide the necessary support and assistance to UEFA’s accommodation team;

-Provide pro-active support and assistance to UEFA’s partners with regard to their accommodation and guest transport requirements for the events;

-Maximise the number of overnight stays in Cardiff and the surrounding region by:

  • Investigating and delivering temporary accommodation solutions during the week of the two finals; and then
  • Workingclosely with the relevant tourism authorities and the LOC’s Marketing & Communications Manager, to proactively promote the availability of accommodation to all event attendees.

-When required, provide the necessarysupport and assistance to UEFA,their commercial partners and the LOC,in relation to their VIP guest entertainment programmes;

-Work closely with the city’s shops, restaurants, bars and tourist attractions to ensure that they fully embrace the event and deliver the highest levels of visitor and customer experience;

-Work closely with the LOC’sMarketing & Communications Manager to prepare an online“Cardiff 2017 Supporters Guide” which provides useful and relevant information for all those planning to attend the two finals;

-Work closely with the LOC’s Head of Transport to ensure that all event attendees are able to maximise the amount of time they want to spend in Cardiffand that their the travel experiences are positive;

-Positively promote the FAW (as Host Association), Cardiff (as host city) and Wales’(as host country) association with the 2017 UEFA Champions League Finalsat all times;

-Work with Visit Wales, Visit Cardiff and all other relevant stakeholders to prepare and deliver an effective destination marketing campaign linked to the staging of the two finals;

-Prepare the necessary post-event reports detailing the tourism related impact staging the two finals has had on Cardiff and the surrounding region; and

-Provide support and assistance to other LOC Project Team members as and when required.

The Person:

The successful applicant will need to possess the following skills and experience:

  • Have a detailed understanding of the tourism industry, and in particular, the accommodation landscape in Cardiff and the surrounding regions;
  • Have experience of working in a tourism related role at a major event;
  • Understandthe key ingredients of a successful tourism &destination marketing strategy;
  • Display confidence and enthusiasm with an ability to inspire and motivate others;
  • Knowledge of what needs to be delivered in order to ensure high levels of customer and visitor experience;
  • Possess outstanding communication & presentation skills;
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively when under pressure;
  • Demonstrate a high level of IT literacy (in particular Microsoft Office); and
  • Have a full and clean driving licence.

Even better if you can:

  • Speak Welsh and/or a foreign language; and
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of football and the history/profile of the UEFA Champions League
