Salary: £33,872 to £39,000 including London Weighting. Future potential up to £43,905 inc LW

Reports to: Major Donor Fundraising Manager

Purpose of Job:

To work as part of RNIB's Major Donor Fundraising Team and establish, develop and steward relationships with influential and wealthy individuals in order to raise sufficient income to meet ambitious financial targets through soliciting substantial amounts of funding. To employ a range of activities including face to face asks, high profile exciting events and innovative solicitation programmes.

Financial Responsibility:

The role has an individual financial target that contributes to the overall team target.

Decision Making Responsibility:

The role encourages day to day decision making and to liaise with senior management on higher/strategic level decisions.

Main Accountabilities:

1.  To identify, develop and lead on relationships with high net worth individuals and personally solicit major funding of gifts of £5k plus in line with the Major Donor Strategy.

2.  To support the Major Donor Manager and Event Manager in designing a calendar of recruitment, solicitation and reciprocation events for your donor portfolio and work to deliver the bi-annual gala dinner which raises in the region of c£1m.

3.  To work with our president, senior volunteers, lay leaders and committees to reach new prospects and increase income.

4.  To recruit and steward RNIB Ambassadors to our committed giving club.

5.  Maximise opportunities to strengthen RNIB’s profile through major donor publications and events involving media, celebrities and public figures.

6.  To produce and implement bespoke, engaging and creative individual donor development plans, tailored communications and proposals for generating agreed yearly fundraising targets. Create

7.  To develop and maintain relationships with internal RNIB staff (fundraising staff, service staff and consultancy staff) in order to add value and optimise opportunities for RNIB, to include securing information on RNIB projects, funding requirements and the organisation of site visits.

8.  To set, manage and monitor income targets with the Major Donor Fundraising Manager in line with overall departmental budgets.

9.  To ensure that all intelligence and activity on potential or existing prospects and supporters is recorded appropriately on RNIB’s fundraising database.

10.  To contribute to overall strategic planning as required.

1.  Specialist Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1.1 Significant and demonstrable experience of raising major funds from a range of High Net-worth Individuals.

1.2  Experience of recruiting, cultivating and stewarding relationships with wealthy individuals and / or influential contacts.

1.3  Knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods of major gift fundraising

1.4  Experience of a creative and strategic approach to the cultivation process of successful high level relationships.

1.5  Experience of managing information on a database e.g. Pivotal or Razor's Edge.

2.  Team working skills

2.1 Proven experience in working with a team and individually.

2.2 Ability to research and evaluate information to influence, convince, negotiate and impresses others in a way that results in acceptance and behaviour change.

3.  Planning and Organisational skills

3.1 Experience of managing own workload through effective prioritising, organising, planning and scheduling of activities and resources.

3.2 Ability to establish procedures for monitoring progress against plans and objectives.

4.1 Experience of writing persuasive and creative proposals and correspondence in a range of relevant styles, which reflect relevant donor markets.

5.1 Experience of communicating both verbally and in writing and present information appropriately to a range of audiences.

5.2  Excellent and demonstrable interpersonal skills, and strong personal confidence, with the ability to inspire and enthuse

5.3  Ability to establish and build relationships with people at all levels and from a variety of backgrounds, both externally and within RNIB.

7.  Special Conditions

7.1  Must be prepared to travel and attend meetings and training as required which will involve occasional overnight stays.

7.2  Commitment to ensure that all internal communications is in a format accessible to blind and partially sighted colleagues. Full training will be given.
