Motivation: Information for Applicants

Introduction

Thank you for expressing an interest in working for Motivation Charitable Trust.

Motivation is an international non-government organisation (INGO). Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of people with mobility disabilities around the world by addressing their survival, mobility, empowerment and inclusion.

We seek to remove the obstacles that prevent disabled people from living full and equal lives. Our work is fundamentally focused on our individual beneficiaries; in everything we do, the needs of disabled people are our primary concern. Human rights frame our work and we use instruments such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to guide our actions with and for disabled people.

Motivation at a glance

Motivation helps disabled people around the world to get the right wheelchair in the right way. To stay healthy, get mobile and play an active part in their communities.

We work mainly in developing countries where, without mobility, millions of people are unable to leave their homes, go to school or to work. Many are left to lie on the floor. Many more die from preventable complications.

Thanks to our wheelchairs, other mobility products and innovative training, we’ve helped to transform thousands of lives: people gain independence and are able to leave poverty behind for good.

Our impact is wide ranging and far reaching too. NGO’s, national governments and companies around the world call on our expertise and experience, and our range of low cost sports wheelchairs is increasing disabled people’s access to grass roots sport not just overseas but here in the UK too.

By the end of 2017 we will be transforming the lives of 100,000 disabled people annually. We will achieve this by focusing on the following six key strategic objectives:

  1. Be financially sustainable
  2. Create a fit for purpose organisation
  3. Implement quality programmes focused on our mission
  4. Design and supply more innovative products and services
  5. Influence the practices of others to reach more people
  6. Raise our public profile and demonstrate our social impact

Our Core Values guide us in all we do:

Respect:Webelieve that everyone must always be treated with respect and dignity. We embrace diversity and have an inclusive approach in all that we do.

Creativity and Innovation:Motivation began with a great idea and a great design. We continue to be driven by the same spirit today, pushing the boundaries to evolve ever better mobility solutions for disabled people everywhere.

Enabling:Our work can transform people’s health, confidence, opportunity and hope. We aim to empowereveryone who works with us to make a difference.

Accountable:We work with professionalism and integrity and hold ourselves (and others/those who work on our behalf) accountable for all we do. We promise to spend every penny wisely, ensuring that all products and services enhance quality of life for the disabled people we support.

The Way we Do Things

People first

We are committed to enhancing the lives of as many disabled people as possible, whether that’s through our own projects or by helping other organisations to do things better. We also strive to ensure that everyone who works with and for Motivation feels valued, inspired and empowered to make a positive change.

Catalysts for change

Since designing our first wheelchair, we’ve been inspiring individuals to realise their full potential and galvanising other organisations to do things better too. Our dynamic and innovative spirit drives us to keep improving wheelchair design and service delivery to ensure that others are also delivering The Right Chair in The Right Way.

Passionate experts

With almost 25 years’ experience we are now one of the leading global experts in mobility solutions. Knowing the difference that mobility can make, we are committed to on-going learning and are happy to share what we have learnt along the way. That’s why other wheelchair service providers, governments and global authorities like the World Health Organization turn to us for advice.

Doing things better together

We believe we can support more disabled people faster and more effectively when we work in partnership and collaboration with others. Shared learning and experience, local knowledge and networks, and economies of scale are just some of the reasons why we think things can be done better together.
