Lesson Information and Checklist

Our mission is to provide horsemanship experiences, outdoor adventures, and leadership opportunities to youth. This is accomplished through personal instruction with an emphasis on applied learning, independence, leadership, and individual responsibility. We strive to help create friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

My goal as an instructor is to prepare participants to safely handle and manage a horse in a variety of situations. At the same time I encourage riders to learn by action, and take responsibility for their choices. Our lessons come from the time that we spend with our horses regardless of being in the saddle, on the ground, or watching them in action. Horses are amazing creatures that can teach us an enormous amount.

Lessons are meant to be personalbut are interrupted at times due to emergencies. In case of an emergency a participant would find a safe place for their horse and then be encouraged to assist with whatever needs to be done. Each lesson is focused on the individual rider, working on improving their skills and meeting their goals. This progression varies due to each participant’s confidence, ability, experience, and motivation.

There are times I run behind schedule for a variety of reasons. Please allow at least 90 minutes at the barn to spend with your horse. A participant shouldspend at least 15 minutes before and after every lesson in order to thoroughly prepare and finish up from a ride. If a horse were to misbehave during a lesson we need to continue to work through that issue until it is successfully handled. In order to end on a successful note it may take some extra time to complete the task at hand. This is just one of many reasons why I may run late.

I ask for open and honest communication between participants and families. This program is constantly being shaped by the participants and I rely heavily on input from them and their families. If you have an idea, comment, or concern let me know. I appreciate all feedback.

During trips or lessons photos and/or videos of the participants may be taken that could be used in whole or in part by CampTashunka. These photos and/or videos may be used on the CampTashunka website, in flyers, or other promotional materials.
