Algebraic Connections

Ben C. Rain High School

2017-2018

Instructor: Donald Wright

Description

§  The purpose of this course is to give students a more complete understanding of Algebra 1. The course is designed to help students improve Algebra 1 skills before they advance to Algebra 2/Trig. We will be covering a large amount of material and, at times, at a rapid pace.

§  There will be several kinds of assessments that will be used to gauge the success of the student. We will also be doing several tasks and projects throughout the school year. The grading scale is included in the syllabus.

§  If a student needs to be absent from school or out of my class, all missed assignments will need to be made up within a week to receive credit and there will be a folder in the front of the class that will contain the makeup work. It is the student’s responsibility to get his/her work. Tests can only be made up Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Class Rules

·  All cell phones and electronic devices need to be concealed at all times. This is a school-wide rule and will be strictly enforced.

·  Students are to remain in their seat at all times. A student may not get up to throw stuff away, sharpen pencils or to talk with a neighbor.

·  Students are not allowed to bring any food or drinks into the classroom. Students may have water but it needs to be in a bottle with a cap.

·  Please refrain from the use of vulgar or derogatory language. In order to have a safe classroom environment where all students feel comfortable, no put downs, swear words, or slang words with demeaning connotations will be accepted. Remember, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.

·  Talking during class will only be allowed when students are working together in groups. A student who is talking is not listening to the teacher and will miss valuable information.
