SECTION I: INTRODUCTION

What is Homecoming?

Homecomingis the celebration of all things encompassed at the University of North Florida. Homecoming2018 will be February 11thto February 17th. All parts of The University of North Florida’s community are encouraged to participate; from students to faculty members,clubs and Greek Organizations, there is an event for everyone to enjoy. Everyone is welcome to participate in this yearly tradition!

The Homecoming Packet

All information regardingHomecoming2018is found within this packet. This includes a detailed description of each event, the rules and how the points are allocated. It is important that each organization’s Homecoming representative turns in all applications. The Director of Osprey Productions is the person planning Homecoming and is available to answer any questions you may have.

How do I sign up for Homecoming?

Please read through this packet thoroughly. Complete, time stamp, and return the attached applications no later than Friday, January 26, 2018 at 3:00p.m. to room 3104on the 3rd Floor of the Student Union (Building 58 East).All rosters must be typed and attached to the packet upon turn in and emailed to the Director at the email listed below. Please have your Homecoming Representative keep a copy of all materials including applications and rosters. Please note all of the deadlines! Late applications will not be accepted!

Application Deadline

Turn in all Homecoming applications with Homecoming roster at 3:00 p.m.on Friday, January 26, 2018to room 3104 on the 3rd Floor of the Student Union (Building 58 East) with a timestamp.Please note this includes the Mr. and Ms. UNF and Lip Sync applications.

SECTION II: POINT SYSTEM

Adding Teammates

If you have a teammate who comes to the event and wants to add in their name, that is permitted; however, it is important to understand that statistically this will lessen your chances of winning. For example, if you have a team of ten, and five people plan on attending, your team will have met the qualification for 100 points. However, if more people add their name to your roster, it increases the number of persons needed to meet the 50% mark. Please note that once added, individuals cannot be removed from subsequent events.

Please note: You may submit the same roster for every event listed above under the participation section.

Comedy Show

Location: UNF Arena

Time: 7:00 p.m.

In need of a laugh? Come to the staple event of Homecoming and enjoy comedy acts that will have you laughing your feet off. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free for students with an Osprey1Card and non-student tickets can be purchased day of or in advance for $30.00 through the UNF Box Office. The first 250 Alumni can get discounted tickets through the ticket box office with the discount code provided by the Alumni Association. Tickets for Alumni will be $20.00 dollars. Tickets can be bought online and in person at the UNF Ticket Box Office.

Monday, February 12th, 2018

Lip Sync Rehearsal

Location: Lazzara Performance Hall

Time: 11:00 a.m.

All teams will have a 25-minute time period to practice. Slots are first come, first served. After all teams have signed up, if there are open spots, teams will be moved to fill in that time accordingly. All teams must turn in their participant roster and performance info sheet prior to signing up for a time slot. (Please note, the roster for Lip Sync does not have to match the roster for the other events. This roster should only include your dancers and stage crew.) Please complete, time stamp, and return the attached applications no later than Friday, January 26, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. to room 3104on the 3rd Floor of the Student Union (Building 58 East).

Lip Sync

Location: Lazzara Performance Hall

The performances will be judged on the following: time specifications, professionalism, originality, synchronization, creativity, appearance, costumes/props, continuity, lip-syncing, crowd response, and creative use of the theme.Doors open at 6:30 p.m. No Bags will be allowed. Tuesday, February 13th, 2018

Food Fort Competition

Location: Osprey Plaza

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Join us in raising awareness and generating support for our Lend-A-Wing Pantry! This year, we are looking to gather a variety of items such as boxed cereals, pastas, pasta sauces, peanut butters, hygiene products, and other non-perishables in addition to cans. Please, no glass jars as they cannot be utilized by Lend-A-Wing. The Food Fort Competition, previously known as the Can Castle Competition, will have two different ways to gain points. First, the design of the Food Fort will receive points. Second, each individual item has a corresponding point value. Points scored in the design category will be determined based on overall look, use of space (10ft x 10ft), UNF school spirit, “Nest Fest” theme incorporation, and overall creativity. Points scored in the food items category will be determined using a scoresheet that we will publish closer to the competition, which will award different point values to different items. May the best Food Fort win!

Mr. & Ms. UNF

Location: Robinson Theater

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Come out to support your fellow students as they compete for the title of Mr. & Ms. UNF. The contestants will compete in the following categories: Formal wear, Q&A, Talent and Homecoming/UNF Spirit. The top three men and women will be announced directly following the event. Mr. & Ms. UNF will be crowned on Saturday, February 17th during the basketball game against NJIT. Contestants do not have to be a member of a team if they wish to compete in the Mr. and Ms. UNF pageant. Students are allowed to participate in this event if they are not a member of a team/group. See pages 16- 17 for specific information and rules for Mr. & Ms. UNF and pages 24-26 for Fine Art Center rules and regulations.

Banner Contest Judging

Location: Student Union Plaza

Time: Judging at 1:30 p.m.

Teams will paint a banner on a flat twin size sheet (66" x 96") that will be hung on the outside of the Student Union. Your banner must include “Homecoming2018” and your team name. Anything in addition to the bare minimum requirement will not count against your score. Each banner will be judged on creativity and overall appearance. Banners must be brought to the Student Union Reservation Desk, in the Student Union (SU) Administration Office (58E-1302) by 10:00 a.m. on February 8,2018.

Friday, February 16th, 2018

Night of Fun

Location: Amphitheater

Time: 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.

Night of Fun is UNF’s annual Homecoming carnival. We will have carnival rides ranging from family friendly to wild thrill, as well as free food, great music, free giveaways, build-a-bear, caricatures and other activities. Any current UNF student can attend Night of Fun but teams will have a chance to sign in to win points towards the Homecoming trophy.

Bin Wars

Location: Amphitheater

Time: During Night of Fun

Each team will be given a recycling bin to design and paint, designs can include but are not limited to UNF, team name, Homecoming Spirit and Ozzie Osprey. These bins will be displayed and used at Night of Fun. Each team will pick up their recycling bin from the Osprey Productions Office in Building 58 East, Room 3102, starting January 30, 2018. Please email the Osprey Productions o schedule a time to pick up your bin. Bins are due on February 16th prior to 4:00 p.m. at the Coxwell Amphitheater.

Saturday, February 17th, 2018

Swoop the Loop

Location: Student Union Plaza

Time: 8:00 a.m.

It’s time for UNF’s annual 5k and Fun Run! Whether you’re running the race, cheering on your team, or handing out water, come to a good old fashion race. You can run as a team or as individuals. Teams may also volunteer at this event to compete for Homecoming points. Register online at as a student at This event will be hosted by the UNF Alumni Association. See page13 for specific information and rules for Swoop the Loop.

Homecoming Game

Location: UNF Arena

Time: 7:00 PM

Come on out to watch your favorite Ospreys play against NJIT in the Homecoming Game. During half time, we will be announcing the winners of Mr. and Ms. UNF and the Homecoming competition. Admission is free for students with an Osprey1Card. There is no better way to end out the Homecoming week!

SECTION VII: HOMECOMING 2018 GENERAL RULES

  1. No Show Rule

If a team signs up to participate in an event, and does not attend/appear at the event or come to the event without required materials stated in this packet, they will be docked Homecoming Points for each offense. A ten (10) minute grace period will be allowed at the discretion of the Homecoming Rules Committee. For example, if “Team A” signs up for Lip Sync and does not attend, they will be docked 50 points. On the second offense, “Team A” will be docked an additional 100 points. On the third offense, the team will be disqualified from Homecoming2018 and may be placed on probation for Homecoming 2019.

  1. Sportsmanship Rule

Each team participating in the Homecoming 2018 competition is expected to respect the other teams, the competition, and anyone helping run Homecoming 2018 (Homecoming committee, Volunteers, Alumni). Unsportsmanlike conduct in any shape or form will not be permitted. Similar to the No Show Rule, on the first offense the team will be docked 50 points, the second offense an additional 100 points, and the third offense will result in disqualification in 2018 and possible probation for Homecoming 2019. This rule will be highly enforced this year and is not to be taken lightly. This sportsmanship code of conduct, borrowed from the ASUN Conference and University of North Florida Athletics, will be as follows:

a.Respect the rights and dignity of all persons, this includes opposing team representatives, game officials . . . spectators of both teams, your own teammates . . .

b.Strive to ensure the personal safety and well-being of all persons. Make prudent and thoughtful decisions where health and safety matters are at issue . . .

c.Refrain from conduct that adversely affects others. Follow the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would wish to be treated.

d.Act responsibly at all times. Consider the potential consequences of your actions before you act.

  1. Student Conduct

If your organization is documented by the University Police Department, your team may be immediately disqualified and WILL be referred to student conduct. All students MUST follow all University policies and procedures.

  1. Controlled Substances Policy

Alcohol, drugs, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or drug/alcohol paraphernalia is not permitted at any Homecomingcompetition events managed by Osprey Productions.If found with any of theaforementioned substances or items or under the influence, the individual student and/or organization could be referred to University Conduct and might be disqualified from the competition. If any substances or items are found in your team’s assigned seating area after Lip Sync or Mr. and Ms. UNF, Homecoming contacts will be asked to meet with the Director of Osprey Productions, Homecoming Rules Committee, Conduct and UPD to discuss penalty.

  1. Identification

Osprey1card identification is needed at all Homecomingeventsthat have attendance points. Nobody may bring another person’s ID (Osprey1Card) to the Homecoming table to sign them in.

If a person from your organization uses a fraudulent ID or an ID that is not their own, the entire organization maylose attendance points for that event, may lose points for the entire week, or may be disqualified fromHomecoming per decision from the Homecoming Rules Committee.

  1. UNF Spirit

Wearing UNF apparel is encouraged for every Homecoming event; show your UNF school spirit during Homecoming Week! There might be chances to earn bonus points during certain events if the majority of your team is seen in UNF apparel. Events include, Food Fort, Mr. and Ms. UNF, and Swoop the Loop.

  1. UNF Team Numbers

A team must consist of four or more people to be competitive.

  1. Point Deductions

Should any problems involving conduct, late applications, or other issues that are not specified in this packet arise, the Osprey Productions Directorreserves the right to hold a meeting with the Homecoming Rules Committee to make a decision involving point deductions or possible removal of teams or individuals from Homecoming.

  1. Tiebreaker

Should a tie occur among two or more UNF Homecoming teams, the winner will be decided by which team had a higher number of Bonus Points.

  1. University Rules and Regulations

All University Rules and Regulations are in effect for all events. Violations of a University Rule or Regulation in any of the events will result in the same penalty as violations of other rules.

SECTION VIII: SWOOP THE LOOP

This year’sSwoop the Loop 5K and Fun Run is sponsored by UNF Alumni Association. Everyone is encouraged to participate! This year it will be for spirit points. Each organization wanting to participate will submit a roster of people who will be participating in the race. Pointscan be allotted to those who want to run the race or volunteer for an hour.

Rules and Qualifications

Sign up online at it is free for students!

  1. You do NOT need to be a member of a team to participate!
  2. You do NOT have to be “competing” to take part in the race!
  3. Each organization will have to submit a roster of runners attached to this packet no later than January 26 by 3:00 p.m. to room 3104 in the Student Union Building 58 East/3rd Floor.
  4. Participation points will be given based on the ratio of members taking part in Swoop the Loop to the total number of people on the total Homecoming roster.
  5. If team members do not wish to run the race, they must volunteer two hours of their time to receive spirit points.
  6. In order to receive participation points, a time has to be submitted for each participant. You have to finish the race in order to receive points.
  7. To earn points as a volunteer, team members must contact the Osprey Productions Directorto pick a time slot and job. Volunteers cannot earn points if they just show up the day of the run. You will also need to sign in on the day of the race to fully earn your points.
