Minutes Minutes from the 10-07-09 meeting were reviewed and then approved. Misty will send to Gail for online posting.

Changes to agenda:

None

Mike Funk:

Mike has an projector screen that can be installed in the student lounge and used with a dvd/vcr or a wii. There will be no cost to student government, and a smart cart can be reserved for student functions or we can provide funds to purchase our own.

Misty should write a memo to Gail requesting permission for the projector screen and a small fridge in the student lounge. Gail will then send to Cathy Lecompte for approval.

Maintenance needs 2 weeks’ notice prior to any event on campus so work schedules can be altered if needed. Weekends the Paul building is closed.

Maintenance crew at UAS recycle approximately 2,000-6,000 lbs of paper per year. One problem encountered has been the disposal of non-recyclables into the container( coffee and other beverages or food). This damages the whole container of paper and renders it useless.

Town Meeting:

Teague proposed the idea of having a town meeting w/ students, faculty, and parents on a monthly basis.

Clare suggested making it a community wide effort, and Donna suggested that we incorporate food and door prizes in order to bring people in.

This idea was looked at favorably by all meeting attendants.

Purchases from Businesses:

Teague suggested that student government develop some criteria for the businesses we purchase from. This item was not resolved and will be discussed at a later time.

Roberts Rules of Order:

This item was tabled and will be discussed at our next meeting.

Roundtable on Recycling:

The following ideas were proposed:

·  Education Campaign

·  Recycle Aluminum/Plastic/Glass

·  Purchase reusable bags/waterbottles

·  Focus on reducing paper use at UAS-KC

·  Weekly Radio spot-Wed 8:15-8:30

·  Earth Day Party

·  Make flyers on recycled paper

Clare will contact someone at the high school about having a community forum in the commons in order to solicit more involvement in the recycling efforts.

Gail would be glad to have the student worker make calls and work on this project. She can do some fact checking and post flyers and whateverelse might arise
