The Leger Legends Race, Doncaster Racecourse – Wednesday 8 September 2010

The inaugural Leger Legends Race is being organised to raise funds for two charities that will benefit those in the northern community starting out and at the end of their horseracing careers:

  1. “The House that Jack Built” – is Jack Berry’s aspiration for an Injured Jockeys Fund facility to be based in the north, similar to the acclaimed Oaksey House jockeys retirement and rehabilitation centre in Lambourn, Berkshire

and

  1. The Northern Racing College residential course facility – which will enable the College to meet the oversubscribed demand for Foundation Stable Staff courses as well as extending the range of residential courses it would like to offer the racing industry

The race will be run under the BHA’s Rules of Racing and each legendary jockey will be granted their professional license back for the race.

Lester Piggott has kindly agreed to attend the charity lunch and assist in presenting the prizes to the winning connections, in what will be the 40th anniversary year since he won the third leg of the British Triple Crown, the 1970 St Leger, on Nijinsky – the triple crown has not been achieved since.

The 16 participating jockeys are: Ray Cochrane, Kevin Darley, Tony Dobbin, George Duffield, Pat Eddery, Steve Smith-Eccles, John Francome, Dale Gibson, Alex Greaves, Micky Hammond, Gay Kellaway, Jamie Osborne, Tom O’Ryan, Richard Quinn, Charlie Swan, Graham Thorner, with reserves Gary Bardwell and John Reid

The Leger Legends charity lunch includes County Stand and Hospitality passes, reserved car parking passes, a champagne reception, three course lunch and afternoon tea – and features a “money can’t buy” auction, as well as a silent auction

Tables of ten are available for £1250.
