MAJOR DONOR FUNDRAISING

Summary
To maximise the profits made for the work of Dogs Trust by managing, recruiting and motivating a team of volunteers as well as managing the shop premises and administration.
Duties
  • To meet all agreed income targets and maximise the potential profit of the store.
  • To direct, motivate and performance manage any other paid members of staff.
  • To manage and recruit a team of volunteers so that the shop can be adequately covered at all times.
  • To complete weekly income sheets, accounting for any expenditure.
  • To be in charge of the petty cash system
  • To manage the banking on a daily or weekly basis as required.
  • To be contacted in an emergency by a volunteer i.e. if there is a break in at the shop.
  • To maintain security procedures for cash and stock and to ensure correct use of the till.
  • To use appropriate forms of advertising to request stock.
  • In liaison with Head Office to recruit volunteers
  • To train volunteers in all the shop operations.
  • To manage the staff rota, ensuring that no single volunteer is left on his/her own at any one time.
  • To ensure that the shop is open at all times and to act as a key holder for the shop.
  • To ensure that all volunteers are aware of and adhere to health and safety and manual handling requirements.
  • To manage a stock rotation system so that the stock moves quickly.
  • To oversee that goods are on display appropriately and attractively using the best space available.
  • To ensure that goods are sized correctly and priced appropriately.
  • To promote seasonally appropriate merchandise.
  • To ensure that the shop is clean and uncluttered at all times.
  • To ensure that the shop adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • To liaise with external agencies such as the Rag Man, obtaining the best price of rags and the Council regarding collection of rubbish.
  • To approach local businesses for donations of stock if necessary.
  • To inform the Community Fundraising Team at Head Office about any event, raffle which might be taking place or any property issues etc.
  • To be helpful and cheerful at all times with members of the public.
  • To be supportive and patient with volunteers.
  • To promote the work of Dogs Trust at all times i.e. through displaying promotional materials within the shop and speaking to members of the public.
  • To visit Dogs Trust Head Office in London for shop meetings if necessary (this would happen very rarely).
  • To maintain regular email contact with Head of Retail / Area Manager / Retail Administration Manager to produce timely and complete information as requested.
  • To actively source stock locally and on time.
  • Any other duties as required.

Person Specification
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Ability to manage people and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to use email and basic understanding of IT programmes such as Word and Excel
  • Experience in handling cash.
  • Physically fit to meet the demands of the job.
  • Experience with working with volunteers.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic attitude
  • Retail/Customer Service experience
  • Flexible approach
  • A dog lover!
