New Chief School Officer, Lead Principal and School Principal

We are pleased to announce a new chief school officer, a new lead principal and a new school principal.

ChiefSchool Officer Dana Bost

Dana N. Bost has been assigned as the district’s new chief high schools officer. Ms. Bost began her educational career in 1996 and she worked in Henrico County Public Schools, in Richmond, Virginia until 2013. Her various positions in Henrico County Public Schools included teacher, administrative intern, and principal (all levels—elementary, middle, and high school). Dana joined HISD in 2013 as the Assistant Superintendent Career and Technology Education.

Ms. Bost received the following degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University—Bachelor of Arts in English, Master of Teaching, and Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. She also has a Post-Master’s Certificate in Administration and Supervision,

Lead Principal Hafedh Azaiez

Mr. Azaiez will be supervising Fonville, Patrick Henry and Revere Middle Schools. Hafedh Azaiez started work in HISD as a science teacher and coach at Fonville Middle School in 2002. In 2007, he became an assistant principal at Johnston Middle School and in 2010 he was named as the principal of Revere Middle School. Hafedh brings a world of experience including being an adjunct professor at the City College of New York and principal mentor for HISD. He has demonstrated excellence in the classroom, being named HISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2007 and HISD first year principal of the year finalist in 2011. While principal at Revere, Hafedh’s campus had the highest composite EVAAS score among all HISD middle schools in 2012. Enrollment also increased 26% during his tenure at Revere MS.

Mr. Azaiez received his B.S. in Physics and Chemistry from La Faculte des Sciences de Tunis in 1998. He earned his Master of Education degree from the University of St. Thomas in 2008.

Grissom Elementary School—Principal Jane Ocanas

Mrs. Jane Ocanas began her career in HISD at The Rusk School, where she was a bilingual teacher and where she served in several leadership capacities including: grade level chair, Title I coordinator, reading coach, math lead, Magnet recruiter and leadership team member.During the past five years, she has been promoted—first to instructional coordinator/vanguard coordinator and then to assistant principal. She assisted in leading De Zavala Elementary School to be named aTexas Business and Education Coalition schoolin 2010 and 2011 and rated T.E.A. Exemplary since 2009. Her most recent work includes initiating a successful mentorship program where East Early College High School students work with third- through fifth-grade students to decrease discipline referrals and to impact reading achievement.

Mrs. Ocanas earned her bachelor’s degree in General Business with a minor in Computer Information Systems from the University of Houston-Downtown. She then returned to the University of Houston- Downtown and joined the bilingual education program to complete her certification in education. She earned her master’sdegree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.
