Prep
I like the dark brown edge of the laser cut ornaments, so I only paint the top surface. Plus it’s so much easier than painting all those edges!
Paint the oval portion of the ornament with Cool White.
Paint the scroll top of the ornament with Slate Grey - use the dabber to dab the paint on to avoid getting it down in the scrolls of the ornament. When dry, repeat with Silver... may take 2 coats for a nice metallic look.
Painting Instructions
Swirls & Snowflakes
Using the Swirls Snowflakes stencil and a dabber, stencil the background with Sterling Silver and Tin. I did most of the swirls and the larger lacy snowflakes with Sterling, and some of the smaller snowflakes and dots with Tin for contrast.
Words - Peace - Joy - Noel
Use “Joy” from stencil #183, and “Peace” “Noel” from stencil #184. I applied the words to each ornament with Modeling Paste. Position the stencil so the word is centered (you can tape down or simply hold in place with your fingers). Using a palette knife, apply modeling paste over the stencil like you are buttering bread. Once you have it all filled in (a little knife texture is ok), carefully lift the stencil off. Let the modeling paste dry thoroughly.
When the paste is dry, reposition the stencil back over the raised letters. You may have to jiggle it a little to fit it back on snuggly. Next, using a dabber, tap Extreme Sheen Sapphire over the letters. Apply 2-3 coats for a good sheen. Remove stencil.
Glitter
Using the round end of a large brush handle, dot varnish on the background dots and centers of some of the snowflakes. While wet, sprinkle with Glamour Dust Glitter. Let dry, then using a mop brush, dust away the excess glitter.
Finishing
I didn’t apply any top coat finish because I liked the contrast of the matte background with the semi-gloss of the Extreme Sheen paint.
