BULLDOG BULLETIN DECEMBER 2010

BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE SOUTH AUGUSTA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

100 YEARS IN 2012

Management Committee report

We wish all members, supporters and players a Merry Xmas and Happy New year in 2011. This year was great one for the club, we didn’t win the title but overall there was a positive feeling around the club which I’m sure will continue into 2010. The clubs loan debt has been paid off and with a good trading surplus the clubs position looks sound although that wasn’t possible without the volunteers, staff and workers that contribute so much, many thanks to all those involved and we need you back next year.

The AGM was held this week with President Peter Huxtable stepping down after 3 years and he has handed over the reigns to club legend Gary Kernahan, all the best Gary. The Vice President will be Anthony Everett and Harry Waterworth will be Secretary, Kym Austin Treasurer. Other members of the Committee will be Sue and Peter Trewartha, Peter Huxtable ,Wendy Black, Graham Coutts, Kean Parrington Paul Elliott and it’s great to see new Committee members Andrew Reynolds and Jamie McTaggart. Many thanks to Peter Huxtable for his tireless work over the last 3 years, leaving us in good hands.

The Football Committee for this year will be Graham Coutts Chair, Mark Shirley Secretary, Kean Parrington, Anthony Everett, recruiting, Paul Elliott, Darren Baker, Gary Kernahan and coaches Ryan Struck, Brad Elsom, Robert Laube and Harry Waterworth league representative . This Committee meets every month and we are always looking for new members so see any one of the lads if you’re keen.

All the best to Cy Collins who undertook a heart bypass recently and we wish him a speedy recovery and hope he’s back on the Bowls rink soon. Great to hear that Cy’s grandsons Daniel and Jake Collins have committed to play with us in 2011.

Many thanks to the volunteers who put up their hands to help out with the busy last month for Trevor White and the catering crew. Trevor has had to cater for the comedy night, Orana Xmas show, Knights of the Southern Cross the Xmas show on the 10th December, well over 300 meals.

Trevor urgently needs volunteers for the Royal Flying Doctor Xmas show on the 17th December if you can either help out during the day or late afternoon. Here’s your chance to serve and wait on Souths Under 17s cricket Coach Dr Alastair Miller that day so get in early and see Trevor or give him a call on 86425092.

100 year anniversary committee; If you want to be involved in a committee to organise events for the 100 year anniversary in 2012 please see Harry Waterworth. Those nominated so far include Jarrod Waterworth, Harry Waterworth, Robert Bowman, Barry Stephenson, Mark Shirley and Kelly Grantham but they need a few females on board to organise them. If done well this will be a big year for the club. The Committee will be involved with organising events, memorabilia, 100 year book, invites to past players and promotion.

Football Report:

The players meeting was well attended and the boys have started with some running before the Xmas break on Mondays and Wednesdays. A training camp has been organised for the 19th February at Pichi Richi park and trial matches are currently being arranged for the start of the season matches will be played at Quorn on the 9th April and other matches on the 2nd and 16th April 2011. Great to see recent signings of Police officers in the town, Lochie Barrett, ex Birdwood and son of B Grade premiership player Don Barrett and John Delevenza. Any new officers in town are normally grabbed before South’s get the chance so it’s good to get them over the arch rivals who have had the monopoly in recent years. Other signings include David Robinson from Centrals who has the much needed height and Greg Shirley, Nathan Kerin and Craig White who are returning from Colonel Light Gardens in Adelaide to play.

Get any unwanted items to Spade Elliott and Graham Coutts for the February Garage sale with proceeds to the club. Spade and Graham are willing to pick up your gear if required and store until the big day which will be held in Couttsies garage on Victoria Parade. It should be a great fundraiser for the club.

Cricket Report: The A Grade side under Wes Yates is in top position, the B Grade White side under Tyler Tenant is in top position, the Under 17s under Pat Miller and Marcus Kerin are top and the Under 14s under Noogs Rozee are third so teams are performing better than the Aussies at the moment.

They have put in place “membership rewards” so for every member that purchases a holiday from us we will allot gift vouchers to the value of $10 per person for holidays up to the value of $1500 and $20 per person for holidays over this value, these will be collated on an annual basis 01JAN – 31DEC and presented to your club at the beginning of each season by way of Gift Vouchers.

These vouchers can be used at the discretion of the club, player rewards, raffles, whatever we want to make the most of this fantastic offer.

All our club members have to do is present their “valid” membership card to our consultants at the time of booking and Jetset will do the rest, to get the word out there we will also be back dating this offer to 01 January 2010 so if any of the members have purchased flights or holidays from Jetset call into the office with their card and they will locate their reservations and start building towards your bonus for 2011.

Any questions please contact Jetset , they see this as a great opportunity to put back into the clubs who’s members choose to support them. Locally owned since 1985 and proud to support our local community.
