How do I join BAND@ WBMS?
It’s simple! Come to band sign ups on either May 17thOR May 19th, 2017in the WBMS Band Room anytime between 3:30-6:00P.M.! You will get to try every instrument and then you pick the one you like best!!! YOU ARE IN THE BAND!!!
Instruments to Select From: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet,Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, French horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion!
Afterschool requirements – There really aren’t a lot of afterschool practices for any of the bands! At the most, each group may only have 2-4 afterschool rehearsals during the entire year; therefore allowing students to continue with the outside activities/sports they are already involved in or planning to become involved in. Every beginning band student will have 2 concerts per year-winter and spring. As you advance-more opportunities arise for concerts including: Military Appreciation, All-County, District and Recruitment. Even then, we still keep afterschool practices to 2-4 per year minimum!
COST – for a reasonably low price, band instruments can be rented through a local music store- a few of the instruments can be rented from the school for as low as $75.00 per instrument for the entire school year!!!! We want the students to have this great opportunity!
Band is a great bargain!!!…It is a fun experience with a free music lesson every day that teaches life skills, helps with reading and testing skills and we learn about many musical and cross curricular educational topics. We keep costs to a minimum to provide an amazing experience to as many students that are interested as possible, while continuing to celebrate our experiences and make life-long friends and memories. We also work on responsibilities, time management, team work and cooperation, and social skills.
Uniform-We wear black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a black belt that is obtained by the parents. The band shirt is purchased for approximately $25.00 from the band director.
Trips-If the student maintains A’s, B’s, and C’s with no referrals, acceptable conduct, and meets all of the criteria, band students are invited to celebrate with a Cosmic Bowling field trip (approximately $10.00) and a Sam’s Fun City-Waterpark and Amusement trip in the spring (approximately $28.00).
Performances-We have at least two concerts each year and students get to showcase their incredible talents in a short period of time. We also focus to adapt to the students level. We have additional opportunities to strive for if you excel at a very fast level!
