Component 1: People and Programs

Mission Statement: NorthTahoeMiddle School continually strives to be a respected place of learning where all individuals feel safe, cared for, and connected. Our mission is to provide each individual with an advocate and to develop an awareness of self-responsibility for all. It is through this belief that the staff, parents, and community will guide our students to becoming caring and contributing members of their families, their community, and their society as a whole.

Overall Goals and Objectives: The goals and objectives of our project are in complete alignment with the goals and objectives of the TahoeTruckeeUnifiedSchool District and the state of California. It is our intent to support students and staff in recognizing and building on the cultural richness of our school community. It is also our intent that by the end of this school year, students and staff will feel more connected, more accepted, and more informed concerning activities both academically and socially at NorthTahoeMiddle School. The following goals are based on results from the California Healthy Kids Survey taken in the Spring of 2007, Attendance Rates of our site, Standardized Test Scores, and other observation data collected at the site.

Goal 1:

NorthTahoeMiddle School students, staff, and parents will be made knowledgeable of the Site Safe School Plan.

Objectives/Activities:

By June 29, 2007, NorthTahoeMiddle School will have an established Site Safety Committee to serve the campus as evidenced by the Committee Membership Listing and scheduled meetings for the 2007-2008 school years.

By June 29, 2007, North Tahoe Middle School’s Site Safety Committee will be trained the development of a Safe School Plan as evidenced by the training sign-in sheet.

By September 14, 2007, NorthTahoeMiddle School’s Site Safety Committee will review the Safe School Plan for any revisions.

By September 28, 2007, the NorthTahoeMiddle School’s Site Safety Committee will present the Safe School Plan for staff input and revisions made.

By October 15, 2007, the North Tahoe Middle School’s Safe School Plan will be submitted to the County Department of Education and to the District Office Superintendent.

By October 29, 2007, notification to the public about Site Safe School Plans will be made through Principal Newsletters, District Website, and various site meetings.

NorthTahoeMiddle School will participate in regional disaster drills that are coordinated by the local office of emergency services.

NorthTahoeMiddle School shall establish and conduct drills that go beyond fire drills, and practice other emergency procedures such as intruder alerts, Disaster Drills, HazMat/Shelter in Place Drills etc.

Component 2: Places

Mission Statement: Our mission at NorthTahoeMiddle School is to create a physical environment that communicates safety for students, staff, and visitors on our campus. Our mission includes providing a safe environment through partnerships of the school community and agencies that serve it.

Goal 1: Create on-going working partnerships with agencies that serve the NorthTahoeMiddle School.

Objectives/Activities:

By September 21, 2007, NorthTahoeMiddle School will send letters of invitations to surrounding businesses/agencies to participate on the School’s Site Safety Committee

Goal 2: NorthTahoeMiddle School students, staff, and parents will become more proficient in the district standardized procedures to follow during emergency events.

Objectives/Activities:

By August 31, 2007, NorthTahoeMiddle School’s Incident Management Team will be trained in NIMS (National Incident Management System) and ICS (Incident Command System). The training will include a district-wide approach on Emergency Procedures to follow during an event as evidenced by the training sign-in sheet.

By June 20, 2008, students and staff will have practiced a minimum of 10 drills for multi-hazard events (evacuation, lock down, shelter-in-place).

  • Formal evaluation information of the drills will be documented in a timely fashion by the Site Safety Committee.
  • Information will have been shared once a month with discussions regarding routines and procedures at Site Safety Committee Meetings and General Staff Meetings. Evaluations will be maintained at the site and forwarded to the district designee.

As evidenced by the California Healthy Kids Survey which will be taken in the

Spring of 2008, North Tahoe Middle School will experience a:

  • 10% increase in students reporting feeling safe at school all of the time.

As evidenced by the CHKS Climate Survey which will be taken in the Spring of 2008, NorthTahoeMiddle School will experience a:

  • 10 % increase in staff reporting that the site is prepared for an emergency.
