Community Awards 2017

The South Derbyshire Community Awards are your chance to say ‘thank-you’ to those who go above and beyond the call of duty for their local community.

If there is a volunteer or organisation you think stands out, make sure they get the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a South Derbyshire Community Award.

The closing date for nominations is midnight on Monday 18th September 2017. Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on Friday 13 October

There are 6 Award Categories:

Long Service Award - sponsored by Pro-Medical 2002 Ltd

This award is to recognise a volunteer who has given their time and energy over a number of years, and who has made a big difference to their organisation or community.

Unsung Hero – sponsored by Clive’s Candles

Do you have a volunteer who goes above or beyond for their community, or who makes a special contribution but never seems to get the recognition they deserve? If so, this is the category to nominate them for!

Young Volunteer of the Year – Sponsored by David Wain Insurance

This award is to recognise a young person under the age of 25 who has shown enthusiasm and commitment to an organisation or cause, and made a real difference.

Volunteer Team of the Year – Sponsored by Mercia Marina

Can’t single out an individual? If you have a great volunteer team that you think stands out for its commitment and hard work, that has made a real impact on the community, nominate them for this award.

Compassionate Company – Sponsored by Swadlincote and District Chamber of Trade

Do you know a local business in South Derbyshire that has made a real and positive difference to our local community? This could be by supporting a cause, or giving time and skills, or through going ‘over and above’ to make services accessible and friendly to those in need.

Local Charity or Voluntary Group – Sponsored by Timm’s Solicitors

This award is to recognise the great work done by voluntary and community organisations across South Derbyshire. If you’ve made a real difference, or know an organisation that has, this is your chance to tell us about it.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE SOUTH DERBYSHIRE COMMUNITY AWARDS: FAQs

Who can I nominate?

Individuals, teams or organisations in South Derbyshire, or whose work benefits South Derbyshire residents, are eligible to apply.

Who can make a nomination?

As long as the person being nominated is eligible for the award we will accept nominations from anyone. You could be a staff member, service user or beneficiary, customer, local resident, funder, partner organisation or a member of the public. Tell us who you think deserves an award.

Can I nominate my own organisation, or my volunteers/team?

Yes, absolutely – we would encourage you to celebrate the good work done by your organisation and your volunteers!

Do I need to tell them I’m nominating them?

Yes, before making a nomination please make sure that the person or organisation consents to being nominated and is able and willing to attend the Awards Ceremony on the evening of Friday 13 October from 6.30pm - 11pm.

How will you decide on the winners?

A panel of sponsors will consider all the applications submitted for each category and agree a shortlist. Winners for each category will then be chosen from the shortlist and announced at the Awards Ceremony, where they will be presented with a trophy.

What if I’m shortlisted?

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the South Derbyshire Community Awards Ceremony which will take place at Burton on Trent Golf Club, Bretby on the evening of Friday 13 October. There will be a buffet supper and entertainment before the winners are announced and presented with their trophies. The other shortlisted nominees will be presented with South Derbyshire Community Award Runner-up Certificates. Please make sure your nominee, or someone to represent them, will be available to attend on this date.

What about those who are not shortlisted?

We expect to receive lots of nominations, so not everyone will get a prize. However we will write to everyone nominated to let them know they were put forward and to acknowledge their community contribution.
